Except that the club has been advertising tickets as being better value than ever before, or some such thing. I'm sure most of us didn't even bother reading that, since we buy our tickets anyway, but for the club to suggest that we're paying less whilst infact we're paying more than before per game is downright deceitful.robjoenz posted:
As for the rise in season ticket price (per game), we can't complain really as they were kept static last season and it's still very good value for money.

Re: St Helens match is at ...
Indeed. The figures that Rob uses for ticket sales are a bit inflated, since I'd quoted £130,000 as an approximation of a 25000 crowd for a Saints derby; obviously for most of the season our crowds are lower to ticket income is lower. But even tickets and shirt sales (does any of that go to the club, or do they just go to JJB Sports?) don't include all the corporate sponsorship, Sky TV money etc etc which I would hope also more than covers any salary expenditure we have.jinkin jimmy posted:
Salary cap isn't an issue. We could pay double our wages and still be operating below 50% of turnover. This would still mean we were in no danger of going bust, which is what the salary cap was initially brought in for before it was changed into a method of holding back successful clubs.![]()
I don't really see what was wrong with using the 50% of income rule, instead of imposing a low ceiling for salaries as well. Clubs like Wigan have more money than they can spend, and that extra money doesn't benefit other clubs or the sport in general. Meanwhile, we still see the RFL having to bail out clubs like London...

Why do these matches have to be derbys? If Welsh people are the market audience it does not matter who plays who. If your blackmailing existing supporters then it does.
Rob your a young single fella with few ties. A weekend to Cardiff is easy for you. What about the Binders, 2 adults, 2 children = serious expenditure.

Re: St Helens match is at ...
I am not a fan of this weekend in Cardiff.
I will be there, I will have a great time but I still think it is a poorly thought out idea.
Forget all the guff about lost income - It will not have any effect on our salary cap as our turn over far outwieghs 3.6 million a year. Shirts and merchandise except the range in the lotto shop go to JJB we get a "small" percentage (but no one says how small). That was the deal, so the club will barely be effected.
I do not like it because of the logistics of it all.
Cardiff is not geard up to the influx of people who want to make a weekend of it. you have people staying miles away because the half dozen hotels cannot cope with demand.
Because of this those hotels start asking for stupid prices because they can get away with it.
I love the stadium, I love the surrounding area, but accomodation is a joke. The RFL make sure they have their deals before they let the ordinary supporters try to get sorted so the people making the decisions do not see the problem.
People going for the day are in for a nightmare.
Most people I would think would want to see the three games so if you allow for 30 minutes between them you have a days rugby that will last a minimum of six hours, with a five hour sit on a coach before and after! Oh yes a real family game!
This is not sour grapes. I took the gamble and booked the hotel for our group before it was announced. We got our rooms for £40 they went straight up to £189 when the date was confirmed to the press.
What exactly are we getting out of this game in terms of the Welsh people that may attend that we would not have got from a double header?
Would a better idea - if this is to broaden interest in the principality - not have been for each club to have played a game there spread through the season?
We might have even built up a spectator base on the back of those six live games?
It makes you wonder what the point is??????

Re: St Helens match is at ...
Somewhere, several weeks ago, I made exactly the same point. This big bang approach is not, in my opinion, the best way to do this. Having a game a month down there would be a lot better, paricularly if they were to use a stadium in the Bridgend area if that is where any Welsh franchise is likely to come from.BONES posted:

I'm still left wondering why this big event is being run in Wales. Why not London, to try and boost attendances there, or the South of France to really cement support for the Catalans team? We've already got areas where we can't guarantee to have big crowds (although I'm hoping the French team get as many fans next year as they did this year), but instead we're running the event in a place that still has no professional team and possibly not even much of a support base.

It doesn't have to cost a fortune though... there is a camp site right behind the Millenium Stadium and various others in the vicinity of Cardiff.
Caravan of 4 @ £15 per night = £30
400 mile round trip @ 15 ppmile = £60
Ticket (I can't remember) = £100
Total cost of weekend = £190
I've not included food because ordinarily you'd buy food when you're at home and if you're on a budget you'd goto the supermarket; make packed lunches (I remember my childhood holidays) and have raviolli and rice pudding for tea!

Maybe you misunderstood my point.DaveO posted:I don't like it due to my own personal circumstances which I have mentioned when this has been debated before. So no I don't like the fact it sounds like I will be denied the home derby game. I don't appreciate paying more for less games either. Which you will as well if you are a season ticket holder if you go to Cardiff or not.FROM A TO B posted:
Simple really, if you don't like it, don't go to Cardiff!![]()
But I also don't like it because by the sound of it the club will lose a fortune in gate money which could affect our salary cap and it will lose home advantage against the best side in the competition.
The money side of it is a real issue because clubs spend right up to the cap and a loss of projected income from that gate is equivalent to a good players salary. Perhaps that is why we have not signed a third recognised prop forward?
Still keen on the fixture?
Dave
I don't think it's a good idea and if it is to replace ahome game, then I will not be going.
If it is the case, who decides who gets what share of the gate?
If London Catalan, do they get a 3rd of the share if there is a 60k gate?
completely pointless excercise and do not see any benefit from this.

Cost of caravan is nearer £10,000.
My point was that it if was that cheap for a caravan, it's even cheaper to take a tent.
