Withers sigining in doubt

Several news posts around the net, and one on the news page on this site are stating that the Withers signing is in doubt, there are fears over the salary cap for next year.

Withers agreed terms over 4 months ago, but has of yet, has not actually signed. It appears the club are now reluctant to confrim the deal.

Where is all the money going? We have a paper thin squad, 2 props and no real centres. After last years dibacle, I was hoping the club would make the right decisions. Time will tell I guess.

It's funny you say that Chris! Just yeaterday i spoke with Dean Bell for some time, and he virtually admitted that the club is worried about last years salary cap situation. I didn't realise it, but it is the season previous to last that we were penalised for! He said this is why the club does not want to confirm any signings until this is addressed! On a more worrying note, he also said that Hock's and Feccas contracts are only verbal and nothing has been put on paper!

rumour as it withers may end up at wakefield if wigan dont sort it soon

Sure did, he was in the BMW dealership! He had just put petrol in his new Diesel BM!

Any particular reason why he then spent "some time" with you divulging all the club's most closely guarded secrets?

Maybe the reason players have not been announced is that we will not be paying them until January to ensure we come in under cap for the following season.

With so many players left and so fewe come in it might be a way of saving on the cap.

Or do the players only get paid during the season?

Any players signed now would count on next seasons cap not the previous seasons, because their contracts would only technically start in 2007.

The salary spent last year has already been paid, otherwise Wigan would deffinatly be over the salary cap with the announcement of Barrett, Bailey and then Fielden mid way though last season, basically players only count on the cap when their contracts start.
