Unpredictable is only good when it the affects the opponents - as Warrington's form has proved this year; it's not much use when your team mates haven't got a clue what you are going to do!robjoenz posted:
Unpredictable is exactly what GB need against the Aussies, how can they beat them if they play someone like Deacon who you know will do the same kick each time on the 4th or 5th tackle. Briers on the other hand may kick for space, he may do a little chip for himself, he may face one way and kick the other, he may dummy a kick and run it. Much less predictable.
Does no-one remember the match between Wales and Australia where the Aussies got a bit of a suprise? That was Briers. He raises his game for the big games, he destroyed Wigan last season with 4 drop goals, who would have predicted that? Wigan didn't know what to do with themselves... charge 'another' drop goal down, but that leaves a gap in the defensive line... hang back and, oops there's another 1 pointer... unpredictable is good!
Briers isn't fast enough - or a good enough support player to trouble the Aussies. They would target him early with a couple of big hits and he would probably go missing.
The amount he talks to the referee grates as well - I know that he is allowed to as captain; however he should have been sin-binned half a dozen times this season for telling the ref what to do!

...but he always manages to raise his game for the big matches, like Wigan. I know what you're saying about his inconsistency but I think it would be naive to omit him from the training squad. If he trains well and professionally then give him a go, if you he fails to impress he's not taken GB in a backwards step has he! He really needs to prove his worth in the rest of the SL season though.Matthew posted:

Are you implying that they are influenced by him? If so, that would be a reason to include him. Personally I think he just gets ignored, if he isn't being abusive then he's every right to question the referee. The amount he talks to the referee grates as well - I know that he is allowed to as captain; however he should have been sin-binned half a dozen times this season for telling the ref what to do!

What do you expect?,these are the same people that have said Brad Drew is the best overseas player in super league,Wellens is better than Radlinski was and last season were of the opinion that Mcguire was the best no 6 in the world apart from Lockyear.

Britain don't want unpredictable, they want somebody who they know will do well in everygame.
If Briers had some of the Aussies and Kiwis running at him, he'd run the other way.

MMM, no argument there, although I'd add Billy Whizz to the unpredictable list.Panchitta Marra posted:
