Utterly incompetent. Felt he didn't need the video ref for any of the decisions.
I totally disagree with you there Alex The Warrior.
If we have got the technology, then why not use it is what I would have said if I was in Thaler's shoes (sorry boots

) tonight.
Anyway, the mistakes that he made, he can learn from when he watches and analysis his performance on the tape with Cummings this Monday.
I say he can learn from these mistakes, so that he knows where he went wrong and he will also know how to put it right for the next match he referees.
I have just watched the tape of the first half and I didn't think Thaler was bad at all.
I am not complaining though, as we have got a record of played 2, and won 2 under Thaler this season.

Ganson was ok tonight, he correctly disallowed the 1st try - Colbon's foot was in touch.
Well Ganson clearly wasn't sure if it was or not given the number of time he ran the replay therefore as he was clearly unsure it should have been benefit of the doubt to the attack. So no he did not correctly disallow the try because he forget that directive.
As to the try itself had there been no video ref then Thaler would have probably allowed it as the touch judge did not raise his flag.
He took so long with the second try because he was looking for a knock on and whether or not if it came off Colbon last.
It was obvious there was no problem from the first replay.
I don't mind VR's taking a time, as long as they get it right and that is the most important thing as far as the game of RL is concerned.
The time he took over the first try was a joke.

he also kept a fair/good 10 between the sides,
Sorry Turfy don't agree with you there, thought it was a poor 10. Allowed Leeds to constantly creep offside.
And not stand square, interfere at POB, plus the worst habit - ball stealing, Sinfield, IMO did not once help or complete a tackle and his hands where not pulling at the ball!

I think I am right in saying that had it been a non-sky game that he'd have raised his flag. He backed off from the flag instead and probably asked Ben to confirm it with the VR. Can be risky if the player doesn't score, like GB v France.

No it wasn't... there was a potential grounding from the Leeds player, then a potential knock-on from Colbon and then a potential knock-on from Colbon as he grounded it.

I will have to watch it on SKY But at the grouind it looked like one replay showed Colbon in play, the other angle showed maybe a millimetre in touch. Benefit of the doubt?

...Allowed both sides to creep. He doesn't seem to fussed about players a yard or 2 offside but pulls back players interfering who are 3 or 4 yards offside. He does this in every game he officiates and it's one way that he keeps the penalty count low and allows the game to flow.

Thaler did OK but it wasn't his best game. He got a lot right, was right to go to the VR for the tries or possible tries and allowed the game to flow. He allowed defenders to creep forward but pinged both teams when it led to interference. You still get a lot of fans yelling for offside because they don't realise it only needs to be the back foot that is in line with the ref, not the whole body.
My two main bugbears were that Leeds were grappling the head of the tackled player quite a lot last night, and I thought he should have cracked down on that early doors - it's potentially very dangerous - plus like most refs he wasn't in the right position to see the forward passes that often result from a flat attack.

I thought he had a shocker and how he had the bottle to get us for offside first when leeds were consistently offending i don't know. He seemed to have his back to the play alot of the time and missed several decisions, but saying that his linesmen gave him no help at all. Alot of his knock on decisions even from the stands you could see were wrong. I would say he was consistently crap.

Some people on here make me laugh. Thaler had a pretty good game tonight. Sure he missed things, all refs do in the heat of the battle. The conditions were rubbish and it was a huge game. He gave us a lot of 50/50 decisions for a change. He was spot on to go to the video both times and Ganson got it right IMO. He was slack on the throttle tackles and missed a few reefs. I would be a lot more upset if I was a Leeds fan. Watch the game again on sky. Seems to me your damned if you do and damned if you dont....enjoy the win people....have a solero and chill out..
