Got something to discuss about RL in general? Then this is the place to post it.

my definition is correct it's rfl thats wrong .Forward is forward or we'll end up like football with players that are offside being onside and then it's open to opinion.I mean if your on the pitch and your not "active" you'll not be playing in my team
It's exactly the same in RL. If you're in front of play you're 'out of play' if you interfere, you're 'offside.'

The definition isn't the problem, the problem is that referees don't have the benefit of replays to decided if the ball went forward they have to make the decision there and then.

It rare that a referee is directly inline with a pass so really it should be the lines men who take the stick for not spotting forward passes. Even the linesmen have it tough because they are not always level with the play if a team is moving forward quickly, Also if a player passes the ball forward but then takes a few steps forward the player receiving the ball is stood behind them giving the impression the ball didn't go forward.

Here is something to think about if the video referee can be used to see if someone is offside then why not whether a pass is forward or not. Both require the same skills of deduction.

Players feet are on (or very near) the floor to judge onside/offside... for forward passes the ball is off the ground so easier to get confused with perspective.

Your stretching there Rob

I wish you could listen to Phil Gould and referes :) And if it is any consolation. The NRL coaches are ripping into referees far worse than SL coaches ever would.

That's the actual reason why you can't goto the video referee for forward passes, it is difficult to see where something is relative to the ground if it's off the ground.

Is that what the little Binders get up to to occupy themselves when their dad isn't singing "tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan, tra-la-la Catalan" ?

I did wonder why but it makes sense really. Photo finishes in a horserace can be varyingly deceptive from course to course depending on the position of the camera in relation to the post. You could end up with a whole load of dodgy angles in a match as the pass in question could be anywhere.
