WIGAN TONIGHT
Re: WIGAN TONIGHT
How did Smith go? Did he link up with Trent with Lulu going to hooker? Did he create any or was it all Barrett calling the plays?

Agreed; I've posted something similar on another thread.jaws1 wrote:To be honest i dont think they played to Nobles directives i think they played to their own abilities never seen the ball passed more and open rugby played no one man stuff down the middle the ball had width .
Re: WIGAN TONIGHT
Smith did all right he is far from match fit but he did put Trent in space he teamed up with LULU for the last 10 mins.He dictates in the middle .
Re: WIGAN TONIGHT
He threw some great long balls out wide, granted a couple of them were pulled up as forward but the vision is there and so is the passing range. His distribution to Barrett was second to none allowing Barrett to run the show. If he improves we could have found a really good prospect for next season.jaws1 wrote:Smith did all right he is far from match fit but he did put Trent in space he teamed up with LULU for the last 10 mins.He dictates in the middle .
Re: WIGAN TONIGHT
Tonight was to be enjoyed. God knows there have not been many nights to remember this season.
The wider context - tonight simply shows what most of us know. The players are decent players. They can play. The players are not the issue. The fact they can do that makes the other dark nights even worse. Whatsmore, what truly matters is next week and the week after. They have to back it up.
Caveat: Hull were woeful. Hard to say they were much better than Whitehaven tonight. Surely Dykes cannot make that much difference? Maybe it was an anti climax after getting to Wembley. However, you fear what could happen v Saints.
Tonight saddened me. We saw a master of his craft at work. The one person that has been unfairly maligned because he has at times produced magic, lots of our best parts of the season are littered with his magic. He is no 1 season wonder and I fear he will be missed badly when he leaves. Tonight was a mastercraft of Trent Barrett passing magic. Delayed short ball, stupendous long cut out passes (Everyone who tried it = forward pass) and a spellbinding catch off his shins and offload for Lu Lu.
It hurts that we never provided the platform for a player who deserves to be revered, remembered fondly. If he played for Saints or Leeds they would never lose a game.

How was Mathers at Fullback? (I am presuming that is where he played)
Was it a case of him starting to sort out his defence or did he have nothing to do?
Who got MOM?

Re: WIGAN TONIGHT
If we did not have a dismal draw against Castleford and losses against Hull Kr and Hudds we would be in 4th position 1 point behind Catalans who lost tonight against Hull KR
Re: WIGAN TONIGHT
Tim Smith I liked what I saw although he is till held back by his lack of match fitness. It was ridiculous to presume he could just waltz back into RL. He is a lively fella but he is blowing hard after 10 minutes.
What did I like. He tells the forwards where he wants them. The pack still spreads wide far too early BUT. He seems to want to play closer to the POTB and brightened my night with memories of Edwards how he darted from one side of the POTB to the other. The caveat. Oddly his passing looks good and fast but he is erratic on long passes. At Parra he got criticised for always turning the ball back inside but I get the impression Brian Smith might have made him do so. His passing, I like the deception, look the opposite way to where your passing but it can = miscued passes.
Tommy had a decent game too.

Agree 100% with you, a star when he gets his match-fitness
Liked the way he played with his head up, organised a move on the left of the POTB and then decided it wasn't on as it was about to be played, called nice and loud and went right and had something else set up.
Excellent
Loved his communication. I'd buy the man a pint...actually...maybe not
Re: WIGAN TONIGHT
No defence needed. We hardly had to make any tackles. He tries, he's keen but he just never breaks a tackle. Tonight he had quite a lot of ball but never broke a tackle. Be interesting to see Phelps at fullback.Matthew wrote:How was Mathers at Fullback? (I am presuming that is where he played)

We need a fullback that can support play. Hansen made a 50 yard break in the first half. Had Rads / Ashton been playing for us it would have been a wonderful try. Likewise Feka was having a ball tonight, just needed more players pushing through to support him.
