How long is it since the forum?

JL told us X, Y and Z was wrong and that it needed rectifying? Have we appointed extra conditioning staff? World class conditioning staff?

We do have Ray Unsworth who is better qualified than Lydon anyhow.

I know nothing of Unsworth and am not defending Lydon but I have read some opinions that Unsworth is completely useless!

Not sure if I read that here or on rlfans but I got the impression he had little real knowledge of the game.

As to Lydon if he is going to be "allowed to leave" as someone else said, which implies he is no longer wanted at Wigan, why on earth did IL appoint him in the first place? Didn't IL go on about how he knew Joe's capabilities well from his time at Quins?

If Lydon just leaves because he has got a better offer it doesn't look good on the CV and I can't see why anyone would give him a job back in league when the Wales job finishes. No one would expect him to hang around to finish the job and they'd be expecting him to leave as soon as something better cropped up.

Don't confuse what I say in the previous paragraph as suggesting he should stay out of loyalty to the club. No, I am suggesting its unprofessional to walk away so soon and won't enhance his reputation if he does which is not the same thing.

Of course if he really is being "allowed to leave" then we are back to the question of why was he appointed in the first place.

As to what you said here:
Not well liked or trusted by the players. Therefore not suited to his position.
I do disagree with that statement. I can't see how someone in his position can be liked by the players as he has some hard decisions to make. If he has upset any of our current squad they can hardly be surprised given their lack lustre 2008 season. They are in fact in no position to complain.

Ray Unsworth has an outstanding track record within Wigan, Wigan RLFC and RL as a whole. He was a large part of our success in the 80's, 90's in terms of developing young talent in the town and at Wigan RLFC. He was far ahead of others in terms of coaching knowledge. He ultimately was headhunted by the RFL and has been running part of that organisation. Has he still got it? I do not know but his reputation is very very high.

For me Hogan and Unsworth are proper appointments. Men with track records who will put 100 per cent into a role 24/7.

Lydon? Maybe at the time IL needed him. Maybe he would still like to keep him. He gave IL and easy foot hold with Wigan fans. A charmer, a stand up comedian, a link with past success. However, what has JL achieved since being a player? He has charmed his way into job after job but where is the substance? the real achievement?

A cad never creates anything

Reputation amongst players? It's not about upsetting or kissing ass. Players understand that professional sport is cut throat. What they expect is to be treated honestly, with integrity and in a decent manner. As far as I have been told, they have encountered the exact opposite with Lydon. He was always more interested in himself rather than the players/club.

By and large at his best, ML was very good at creating goodwill with players.

I go back to the question? What has he done in 12 months? Nothing? Something? A lot? He hardly spoke at times during forums, to the press. What did he do to move the club forward?

P.S Alex BP on Rlfans does not have a clue

Driving to work this morning I noticed a bill board sign saying Lydon to quit Wigan, anyone know anything about this? Not a very good sign if this is true
