Halifax-raised Widdop was offered a trial at Wigan before he emigrated with his family Down Under aged 16.
Maguire has not abandoned hope that he may lure him to the DW Stadium in the future, adding: “I had many chats with Gareth, he was going to the Wigan club but he got the opportunity to go to Australia with his family’s work and that took him there. Hopefully, maybe one day, we’ll see him here.”

Widdop has indicated that he is staying in Australia (NRL) and not interested in making a move to Superleague as yet.

Widdop to be Melbourne stand off when Finch comes to Super League according to this.
Interesting that as Widdop moves to the halves down under, we move Sam to full back here.
