Very sorry to see him leave, always liked Freddy, & he had the heart of a lion.

As previously stated seems very strange to let an English lad go to sign an overseas player & a has been from Crusaders.

Not a very happy bunny at moment with this bit of business from the club :(

I have read that Wigan offered him another contract but he refused because Hulls was better . . . I wish him luck but at the end of the day how much do you pay some one who has been injured for a large amount of time hasnt had much gametime since his return and his contract is up, oh added to that and he is POTENTIALLY good.

I have liked him and do rate him but if Hull have offered more money and its money that he wants then fair play.

Its like Wheeler at Stains potentially awesome but how do you put a price on him with all of his injuries?

Sport is a funny business.

You are presuming that IFL didn't offer Freddie a contract or the contract was not as good as Hull's offer!

Freddie may have thought that moving to Hull gave him better first team prospects.

It is sad to lose players that have come through the junior system but due to the salary cap restrictions it is inevitable that players will move around. The RFL need, in my opinion, to reformulate the workings and principles of the system e.g. 50% of the salary of a player who has been promoted via the academy system should only be charged to the cap. Such a move would encourage more junior development in each club and allow the parent club to offer better contracts to players that have 'made the grade'.

The problem, at the moment, is that we have players seeking the best deal fiancially (who can blame them) but such practice is not beneficial to the game as a whole because of the limited amount of British junior players being attracted to the sport.

Prescott has certainly come on leaps and bounds this season but 18 months ago before O'Carroll's injury he was keeping Prescott out of the team. With a full pre-season he could easily challenge again in my opinion and in any case he is far more preferable to Lauaki.

I am sure that will be part of it but the bit you are forgetting is the reason Wigan may not have been able to match the deal Hull gave O'Carrol was because we have signed Lauaki. A player few seem to want here or rate.

But if we have signed Lauaki and used cap money on him there was surely nothing inevitable about this move?

You can't just blame the system here.

Yes he was keeping him out of the team but I don't think he could have the game that prescott has got now but that's opinions for you.

I'm haven't been a fan and nor have a seen much of Luaki but if he is a Shaun Wane signing we'll have to trust his judgement, especially when it comes to bringing in a prop forward and releasing one...

Luaki hasnt even been announced as of yet, does anybody know if this signing is concrete? So far it is just a rumour.

Speaking about the news, Head Coach Michael Maguire said: "The Club is obviously disappointed to be losing Eamon. Wigan did offer him a new deal but he has decided his future is elsewhere with the security of a three year contract and we wish him all the best."
I'm very disappointed in him. Wigan have stood by him through 2 years of injury, searched the globe for a specialist to fix the injury that threatened his career, and now he's off to Hull for a longer contract and/or more money than offered by Wigan. Says "Ancient & LOYAL" on the badge that he doesn't want to wear any more.

I agree that indeed is another possibility.

That is possibly true. The point that I am trying to make is that the restrictions of the salary cap do not encourage all teams to develop young players. The one's that do should be rewarded in some way. We need to get all teams to develop a larger number of homegrown players and be given the opportunity of retaining them. Cas are a prime example of a team that develops young talent but they invariably do not see the benefit of their hard work (either in team improvement or their financial position). My suggestion was to provide some relief within the salary cap, another way could be to introduce transfer fees, or we could reduce the number of overseas players per team to say three.

We need to make SL stonger and more competitive and yet at the same time reward young players accordingly.

Eamon sustained his injury doing his duty by Wigan. Consequently I would expect Wigan to stand by him.We are not in the inner circle so are not really in a position to be judgemental of the lad.Of course it is sad that we are losing a solid player for the rumoured Luaki but to infer that he is being disloyal to the club is a bit of an insult to the lad don't you think? Most people in every day walk of life wish for an enhanced contract and better financial rewards so is it really surprising that he possibly took the better offer on hand? Of course I will miss the lad but I will wish him all the very best for his future and hope that he does not bite us by the hand on his return as a Hull player.
