TBH if Wigan were seriously looking at signing Brown then why not? Both inconsistent and lacking in glory first time around in the side and so probably cheaper because of it

Was thinking exactly the same after watching young Russell playing last night. If he continues to improve on the way he is playing there's no reason why he could'nt get back to Wigan as Full Back releasing Sam into the halves.
If Finchy leaves we will still need a replacement as IMO, Mellor isnt the answer yet.

Right if Finch goes their will be problems next year, unless SW knows something none of us do with regards to the younger players stepping up we need to look overseas.
Their are no English half backs that I could honestly say I think are good enough and thats a sad thing to say about our game. In years gone by we have had probably the best halfbacks in the world but we lacked with forward power now we have great forwards but second rate halfbacks and thats down to the structures involved with coaching from an early age. I just feel that rugby to an extent is coached out of them and they all play the same way, playing the percentages and taking no risks. Brough, Brown or Lomax do not inspire me in any way shape or form and thats a worry when it comes to playing against the best in the southern hemisphere.

I really don't want to see Sam moved into the halves as he will be so less effective. At the moment he joins the three quarter line all the time and he can't do this from 6 as he will recieve the ball in a standing still position half the time.
We really need to make Finch a good offer and IMO sign another top quality 7.
At least we have a lot of money to play with so surely the most famous club in the world with the current best team in superleague can attract someone of real top quality.

The answer has to be,for next season, Russell back from Hull to FB and Tomkins into the halves.From a financial point of view and the team.

Sam isn't a distributor of the ball in the way that Finch is, and for my tuppence worth he never was even when he was playing 6. I'm not saying he's bad at it, just that he is a different kind of player, and for the reasons above I think it is a step in the wrong direction. Despite all the doubters he has made an exceptional attacking fullback; fair enough he misses the odd high ball, but then, even Billy the kid makes mistakes as he proved in last weeks origin match.

Tommy is going to be a very big hole to fill, but we need someone in the same mould. Quite where we find that I do not know.

We cannot afford to lose Finch as well, and I agree with the above. Pay him what he wants, the guy is a class act the kind of which you are very lucky to find.

What has a financial point of view got to do with it? We should have loads of salary cap room free and if Finch and Leuluai both go we need at least one half back of similar quality. Even the other half back should be at least a top younger prospect who would not come cheap. In an ideal world we would keep Finch and sign a top young English half back with a good kicking game so we can have continuity going forward, someone like Gaskell or Smith would go well alongside someone like Finch. This would see us until the likes of Williams and Hampshire come through as I cant see the older generation of half backs making it, at Wigan at least.

Tomkins has to stay at full back for me. Our attack would suffer with him at half back and he is not the organiser and distributor that we need there.

As far as IL is concerned finance has a part to play ie Kevin Brown.if we can utilise existing players then that is the way we will go.Finch is going nowhere btw
