Put him there week in week out and see.ian.birchall wrote:Perhaps not CP but still the clubs best centre.cpwigan wrote:NO, great in an emergency BUT he is a back rower first and foremost NOT a centre
Sarge had a great stint last season, Gels this season, even Thornley had a decent spell.
Defensively fine but not a great attack threat as a centre, sorry did a great job one off but no long term solution.

Re: Bateman at Centre
I think Bateman may be our best stand in centre (i.e. better than Joel) when we have an injury problem. Give him a few games there and see how he goes. Otherwise I hope they give Josh a game or two at centre when both of the other wingers are fit. If Josh or John don't get chance to show they can play really well at centre I'm worried that we will get Chris Bridge next season. We may get him anyway if Josh is to be played on the left wing.
Re: Bateman at Centre
Looked better than Gells at centre.
He probably is more effective in the back row but he still looked better than Gells. No brain farts at all. That alone probably saved as a virtual guaranteed score against us against a better side like Leeds.

Agree, but a better option than Joel. We need to resolve this problem for next year.cpwigan wrote:NO, great in an emergency BUT he is a back rower first and foremost NOT a centre

I agree, if we have to have a second row as a centre, it's Papa for megruffy wrote:The lad was awesome can't add owt more to be honest

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Gelling's form before injury was better than anything from any centre in a Wigan shirt this season.

Well that isn't saying much is it but what are you two watching re Gells? I really don't get this.thegimble wrote:I agree CP.cpwigan wrote:NOT better than Gells before his injury! SOME WAY OFFDaveO wrote:Looked better than Gells at centre.

Gells is seemingly on a different planet than most people off the field and the rest of his team mates when he is on it doing some totally daft things that aren't "off the cuff" things but just plain daft.
He can run over smaller players so looks spectacular but he is error prone (25 errors, 2nd highest in the squad net but on average this is about two per game).
