Shorrocks appears a good player with plenty potential.

After this season however I do think we need to make sure we have plenty "pivots" to run the team.
Should Smith depart I do think Hampshire should return.
TL is returning and the general word on here is that no one really knows what position he will play.

Smith is our only ever present and his input with drop goals especially has won us game after game. Should he go then we need more than one player to replace him due to the injuries our "pivots" sustain.

Sam T has missed a third of the season, Lockers around half, Williams a third and Micky all but two SL games.
We need players who are leaders and have a voice out there. Shorrocks is a good player but at the moment I see him as a follower and not a leader. Given his limited experience at first team level he couldn't be anything else.

Exiled, I wasn't being rude and of course you may be right. I think Wigan signed him to cover both spots. Given that Smith looks to be on his way, I think Tommy will fill the void.tommy has recently been playing very well and he always takes the ball to the line and therefore constantly commits defenders. He will be a main player whatever position he occupies.

however this bit angered me a little from wane

why are we so obsessed with bulk? you look at the finest halves in the last decade or so;

thurston
lockyer
andrew johns

none of them were big, why do they need to be?

I dont personally think its coincidence that tomkins was never injured before he 'bulked up' he used to be made of elastic. Look at burrows - hardly ever injured
All are well above Shorrocks weight, Thurston and Lockyer over a stone heavier. If you compare Shorrocks with say Williams you will see that Williams is quite a bit stronger and that's what Wigan are looking for. Watch how many times Shorrocks almost breaks the tackle but just gets tackled. Shorocks missed the whole of pre-season due to his ACL injury so this coming pre one will be very important to him.
I wouldn't say a stone is well above - and I'm not so sure strength and weight are a quality perticularly needed for a halfback. I've no issues with trying to be stronger but I think we are obsessed with bulking up players when we would be better served letting them play a fit version of their natural weights you don't have to be big to be strong.

Look at burrow he's 2 stone less than shorrocks, makes plenty breaks and plenty tackles and hardly injured. Injuries to me always seem to come once a player "bulks"
To be fair though, Burrow is only 5'5" tall!

Tommy has been playing the majority of his rugby league as a 6 half back for new Zealand Warriors, and to a decent level from what I've seen on Premier sport.
His communication and organisation with and of other team players sticks out with me. No reason why he couldn't be our captain if lockers is struggling with fitness.
