Not sure you can say that about the new players. I would say Calderwood, Fletcher et al are better players than those outgoing.- psycho - posted:
the players that we have lsot havent been replaced with the same quality. plus the clubs around us also have world class players and make the league more competitive.....i disagree with the lnodon comment. we should take over them next season if we have a good season

Re: wigan not the force we...
not bin on for a while so whats this someone putting wigan down before we have even kicked a ball for next season and the reason we arent quite the force anymore is because as someone rightly sed the salary cap and its making rugby more of a level playing feild slowly.
Re: wigan not the force we...
What people often forget (we should know though
) is that the salary cap prevents a quick fix, if you get in a downward spiral it really does slow down progress back upwards. That applies to promoted clubs too although there are other contributing factors in their case.
Never been sure about the salary cap raising standards. I think it prevents teams from monoplising and making giant strides at the top so they struggle to maintain their standard or improve upon it and everybody else? well the remainder slowly do what they can within the constraints imposed. Dumbing down rather than raising standards is my take

I agree not the force we used to be. But Wigan in the '80s and early '90s were well ahead of the times that why we were soooo good. Yet since SL we have yet to keep up. I don't know if this is at all a contributing factor, but is not a lot of it down to Mo Lindsey? Not been a huge fan of his. But if you look at the signings at the start of the season (Logan/Fletcher) compared to Milly's at the end (Pali,Richards,Claderwood). Mo has always gone for the "over the hill" quick fix. Now Milly has brought in quality young players to help strengthen the club for seasons to come. So i believe Mo to be a reason for Wigan's decline in quality.
Oh BTW some may bring up Vaeliki as an example of young player brought in by Mo but, he was coming in off a leg injury. Typical Mo strategy get the injured one.

Compared to how he played in Australia he is crap. No need to go off on one, just ask them why he's crap i'm sure they'd be more than willling to explain.

Re: wigan not the force we...
I think we could definitely be a force next year - a pack of Palaea, Newton (if...), Logan, Fletcher, Hock and Lockers with support from Scully and Tickle, if fit and firing, could well be the best in SL. I hear we have another 3/4 coming, so let's see how the centres look, but a back 3 of Rads, Dallas and Calderwood looks none too shabby to me.
With a fair run with injuries (and a long off season and a proper coach are sure to help there) we should be up in the top 3.
