"A" team, or "our" team? I don't think many would argue against Farrell being considered a great captain who led from the front as well being a superb player. The fact he didn't lead us to as many successes as we might have liked isn't really down to him, and more to other factors such as injuries, regular changes of coaching staff, some dubious imports etc etc.

Agreed, there are some captains who have been very effective whilst not exactly being brilliant players (Chris Joynt), but you can have a team where the captain is both a good motivator and a top player in his own right.

But I'm not sure if Lockers is up to the task of motivating the team at the moment. It would be a big ask for anyone, no matter how experienced, to give this lot a kick up the behind.

Based on what I see.
According to RFL rules, only the captain is allowed to "discuss" on-field topics with the referee (from anyone else it's "dissent"). Fletcher has been the only one talking to the ref in the last 2 games, as far as I could see.

in the modern game apart from the toss of the coin what is the captains job motivation should be but at the moment the motivation should come from looking up at the scoreboard with instructions coming onto the field all the time i say give them all a go at tossing the coin and let lads concentrate on there own game without having to organise the man next to him
