Actually right there is a good example of what I mean. You believe you are being impartial, but you are actually being swayed by your affinity with the referees. I know of many people who believe they are impartial. Unfortunately it is a human impossibility.
I thought you might say that... however, I am a Wigan fan first and foremost, so surely that over rides any affinity with refereeing?

Not neccessarily. It all depends, as I said earlier, on your personal belief system. To tkae the current example that we have been discussing. Had the positions at Warrington been reversed and it had been Wigan players surrounding the ref etc. but instead of changing his decision he had penalised Wigan for dissent, I can well imagine you supporting/justifying that decision in exactly the same way as you did the one on Sunday.
Well I suppose I am trying to jump into the referees mind to try and think what he must have been thinking. Based on this I made the assumption that because he didn't penalise for dissent that the calls from the Warrington players were polite, if a little excitable.
If it had been the other way around and the penalty had gone against Wigan I would have assumed that something was said abusively.
