ganson and laughton

Post by - psycho - »

according to the paper, both were dropped for poor performances and a new lad was brought in to referee the hudds vs cas match. i wouldnt expect ganson to be dropped, ronnie laughton yes but ganson? :conf: anyone know this?

apparently they brought in two NL refs - the one from the final, and did a swap for the weekend.

And in true Superleague style, Mr Leahy, who was widely praised for his handling of that final, has been criticised for not being good enough for the top flight. I guess I feel a little bit of sympathy here for Mr Cummings - everyone complains that the SL refs are all rubbish, so he demotes some and brings new guys in, and everyone complains they are also not good enough. What can he do to make people happy? We've got to have referees, we've no game without them, but whoever he brings in seems to cop flack all the time.

I totally agree, if ther was nor referees, there would be no rugby league at all. I disagree with Ganson being demoted to NL1 as I think that he has been one of the better referees this season.

Laughton, well my opinion changes on this guy every time I see him referee. So I don't know whether Laughton deserved to be demoted to NL1.

Good to see Jamie Leahy making some big and (possibly) correct decisions.

I don't think it was a case of Ganson and Laughton being dropped (despite what League Express says). I think it is more to do with the fact that next season there will be 6 full time referees. So Cummings was allowing Leahy and Taberner to get some experience as I think it is likely they will become full time next season (atleast Leahy).

There are a couple of current SL referees that won't take up the full time positions next season purely because they won't want to take a paycut. Kirkpatrick, for example, has a good job, but he won't get dropped from SL. We'll end up with fulltime referees in the National Leagues.

Maybe Mr.Cummings should come out of retirement? Saints fans would love that. I always said Cummings reffed one good game, his last one when we beat saints in Scotland.

I remember Whitfield. I'm sure he is the brother of colin who played for Wigan. We can go back years and find referees that nobody liked.
