if you don't believe this rumour then fair enough, but let me just say something to support bad_guy. i posted a similar rumour last season saying we would get docked 2 points and no one believed me then, look what happened a few days later. so before people start pushing it aside, id take it on board as anything these days could be true. everyone was saying fielden wouldnt happen, it did. the 2 points, it did. brian noble, it did. so before you all start screaming 'false accusation' i think we should wait to see what happens. i now for a fact that his source is a very, very big RL fan, not just wigan and she very rarely gets things wrong.
I'm a very big RL Fan.
I've heard that there are lots of rumours going round that are completely unsubstanciated.
The RFL would not have audited the books yet, so how can a fan possibly know what the RFL are going to decide.
anyway, it hasn't come from your Nan, so can't be true!
but hes a very, very big rl fan ,think b4 they start docking pts off us they have to look into the sts and see how they are keeping under the sallary cap,we need a accountant like theres

just been told by a friend who follows the game here and in oz that we've been deducted 12 points for next season due to another cap breach.
The RFL only published the salary cap findings and any penalites at the 3/4 way through the season as they did this time.

So this has got to be nonsense. Even if the club has breached the cap enough to get docked 12 points no one is in the position to say that at this pointin time.
ve just checked all over the net at the official wigan and super league sights as well as bbc.co.uk and sky sports and can't find anythin so hopefully shes way off target
Exactly. if it was known now that Wigan were going to start the SL season 12 points down then it would be all over the press.

paul prescott
We didn't let glessson go, he is back at the club. You did miss Moran and Sculthorpe off that list. Wilkes may still be a Wigan player though he was loaned out (he signed a 2 year deal under Millward).

This was started on RLFans by a Wigan fan, the thread he started was then full of stains/leeds/wire fans agreeing that we have gone over the cap, they just hope we have, not one of them have a shred of evidence to confirm we have.
For gods sake the books have not even been checked yet, as someone on here has already stated how in the hell can these people possibly know we are over the cap?, it is clearly a case of other fans hoping we have gone over, most of them are even saying that we should relegated (the season has not even started) and Castleford should be put back into superleague, it is nothing short of pathetic.
If you speak to a Stains fan and say that they have gone over the cap they reply with "how do you know when the books are not even checked untill November/December", but yet they all know we have broke the cap?, time to stop listening to all the crap these cretins are coming out with me thinks.

Just to clarify this, the accounting year ends in November, and clubs are required to send the accounts to the RFL by 1st January. At the moment, only the clubs themselves know if they have overspent (and even then they won't know for sure what penalty will be imposed by the RFL, and they will spend the next couple of months trying to make things look less serious). No-one else (other clubs, the RFL or anyone else) has seen the books at the moment, nor will they do so until next year, so all these rumours, I'm afraid, are unsubstantiated.

This is covered in the Salary Cap FAQ thread, which has been largely built up from information from the RFL itself. See point number 5.

There's a world of difference between hearing a leaked story and somebody guessing what the incomplete accounts for the trading period say.

The RL approved the signing of Fielden and advised the shipping out of a couple of minor players to keep in with the cap. It's possible that we may just be over by a fraction as these things can be hard to get spot on, but being over by fortunes is cobblers.

this is one time i'd like to hear all you guys turning round saying i told you so.
I would be willing to acknowledge that.

But if you are correct, then the RFL have some questions to answer because it would mean the whole salary cap scrutiny process is a bit ridiculous IF it has already been determined what the penalties are before anyone has even looked at the accounts.

But the penalties are set on a sliding scale based on how far you go over the cap. So to for Hull to get four points deducted next season they would have to have exceeded this years cap by the same amount we exceeded the cap in 2005 (as the penalties have doubled).

So unless people know what the figures are for these clubs, how can they say what the penalty is going to be?
