:conf:to be honest if you are a good modern forward is their realy that much diference in prop ,second row 'ie'peacock was asecond row at brad ,morley at leeds and so on.
Wasn't Morley a prop at Leeds? I'm sure they played 4 props - him, Barrie Mac, Anthony Farrell and Darren Fleary. With Terry Newton added in there as well, it was usually penalties galore from that front row collective!

He was primarily a second rower, who could play prop. He really made his name in the front row at Sydney.

Of course he was rubbish, big things were expected of him but never eventuated.
Him carrying little nagging injuries didnt help, but neither did his big mouth bloating about how he was the best and going to smash us etc.
I'm glad he has the guts to come out and admit it. I have respect for him coming out and admitting that.
I was impressed with Peacock but cant agree on him winning the award.

I think more Second Rows are becoming Props than Prop becoming Second Rows. Players like Peacock and Morley have adapted to Prop because they run hard and tackle well, the position of second row is becoming a more skilled position rather than just being a second row of props. Players like Hock and Fletcher have good ball handling skills and Hansen and perhaps Gilmour are the tackling specialists.
Personally I don't see Fielden as a specialist in either skill.

Fielden is a player I like, hard and determined. He came up against the best props in the world and came up very short. He is very good against the props over here but he is not a world class prop. He may be a world class second rower, who knows!
He's had plenty of good games, and series at International level, to a point where even the Aussies rated him as one of the best props in world RL. Yet after one bad series, people like you write him off and claim he isn't up to it.
Some people just have a short term memory it seems.
some people read somthing that is not infront of them and prefer to tell you what you have wrote!

So is it safe to assume your statement highlighted in bold above means you basing your assertion that he is not a world class prop based on what you saw in the tri-nations?

I based it on how I see him play the game and the fact he did have a very very bad time over there, this does not mean I do not rate him and are glad he is a Wigan player as he is still a top player in this country. I will add I feel he would not get into the green and gold team. I read many fans over here stating he is the best prop in the world, this is and always has been untrue.

How many other English players do you think would actually be able to make it in an Aussie Squad (ignoring the obvious problem).
I have not heard anyone say that Fielden is the best prop in the world but have heard he is ONE of the best props in the World.

So why are you ignoring all his previous international performances which have been very good?
That is what ChrisA was driving at.

Well I don't think the current Aussie front row is anything special. An
on-form Fielden is IMO as good as the likes of Mason whose only claim to fame appears to be the punch.
Fielden was not on-form for the tri-nations and as a result many are now coming out of the woodwork saying he was never that good anyway which flies in the face of previous performances where he
was the form front rower. Yourself included.
As the old saying goes form is temporary, class is permanent. Fielden is class.

No Dave you are wrong here, I have never said Fielden was a prop and only described him as a top player and always stated he is a second row player
As far as this saying goes and I know it is said a lot, I don’t agree with it!
Both form and class are temporary.
Form over time is lost and so is class, you can’t say watching Andy Gregory he is a class scrum half at this present moment, but he was once!
