Noble Sacked???

Got a hot rumour from a source inside the club, or just something you heard down the pub? Then what are you waiting for, post it on The Rumour Mill.

I think all this is just wishful speculation.

I also don't think he has a case for constructive dismissal. None of the posters on here know what has gone on behind the closed doors of the club, for all we know IL has told Nobby that he probably wont be at the club next season. His contract is up at the end of this year and IL has been seeking a suitable replacement. It's not as easy and as cut and dried as some people think to claim for constructive dismissal. I know of several people who have tried to claim for constructive dismissal from former employers, only to be told that they don't have a strong enough case, and from what we think it looks like IL has done to Nobby, he doesn't have a strong enough case IMO.
I await the dissection of my post :)

I meant if he was shunted to a new "none" job (so called director of rugby as mentioned in the post I was replying to) he would have a case, not that he would have a case for constructive dismissal due to anything that has transpired recently.

No need. you got the wrong end of the stick.

I do think you may be right that Noble getting the boot is wishful speculation. The fact there were lots of meetings at the club yesterday is hardly surprising given the Hock situation as they could all be to do with that.

Pity!

Ah, I see. My mistake sorry. I agree that if he was shunted to a new job then he would possibly have a case. I thought you meant if he resigned from his current role as head coach.

I've never been one to overly criticise a coach because I, nor anyone else on this site, could do his job. However, the results have been poor and the style of play even worse. I am leaning towards the fact that Nobby hasn't been sacked and that he will see out his contract until the end of the season. Who we get then is anyones guess, although there are a few candidates who most of us would like to see at the club in one form or another. Some of them may be a bit far fetched, but hopefully we can get someone who will get the players to play for him and bring back a more attractive brand of rugby, if he gets these things right then the results will look after themselves.

I think when you sack a coach very often depends upon when you can get the right replacement. It is not easy securing the right coach and that is why every club will well in advance be discussing with coaches they would like to employ in the future their intentions in the immediate/short term. Not just Wigan RLFC, Every club.

Should you tell the incumbent coach that he will not be retained when his current contract expires? Probably but NQ Cowboys did so and the rest of the season was an umitigated disaster. They eventually let the incumbent go early and appointed a caretaker for the remainder of the season.

It also cuts both ways. Brian Noble applied for the Catalan job whilst Wigan coach. Depending on who you believe he actively manipulated media friends to link himself with coaching posts, E.G Return to Bradford, Going Down Under/Sydney City.

Do you have any choice? He will want to know one way or the other and probably sooner rather than later so he can start to look for a new job if he is being let go.

Then again you could always come up with some vague notion of it depends on results without defining what that actually means. Or of you did define it and the threshold for not getting a new contract was past then he would know once again he was gone.

We actually have a very unusual situation because as far as I know all the coaches in the recent past who have left at the end of their deal did so on their terms. They have decidced to leave.

I can't recall one coach who was told he was not going to be at a club next season who was also asked to stay on except the one you mention below.

Does this not suggest then, that if the coach is to be let go then once the decision is made then he should be let go immediately and a caretaker appointed?

As this may well not be happening with Noble it may even suggest he isn't actually going anywhere and will get a new deal.

1) We look very unlikely to make the play-offs and even less like to make the Grand Final
2) We play a dour one up the middle style game and our hooker is one meal short from being cut out of a KFC restaurant by the Fire Brigade
3) In our last match we lost to a side who have the worst ever record in Super League; who had players missing.
4) The chances of us getting to the CC final are minimal given our current form (see above)
5)Our best player has failed a drugs test and will be banned

How would we tell the difference?

The Murrayfield victory aside; this has been the least inspiring season since I started supporting the club.

Noble was still at training this morning,I think that Noble will leave on his own account. I think that the way Lenagan has handled this situation stinks. I do not like the coaching methods of Noble, but he deserves respect. Ian lenagan is in France on holiday. He would be better buying Carl Webb who I watched this week in Aus, he is tough powerfull and nasty, just the enforcer we are looking for. I think the problem is, he is not injured/bi-polar/ or alcoholic, so we cannot get him cheap.

Re Carl Webb, I totally agree. I have been saying the same thing for two years. Ask him to bring Lima (Melbourne) with him.
