I think you are on the money Rich.
1.6 millions does not go a long way when players are getting inflated salaries like King.
Even Saints and Leeds are balancing the books by letting players go and trying to bring young players through.
The signing of Myler is not good news for the young Wigan scrum half that Wire signed.

This is how a wire fan explains it, obviously this only counts as an explination if they are within cap now which if the cap system wasn't live i'd swear they weren't!
From Wire fan on BBC:
as for the salary cap.
Reardon- Gone
Gleeson- Gone
Briers- Wage Cut
Rauhihi- Going
Johnson- Going
Pickersgill - Going
And coming in,
Mathers- Replaced Reardons contract
Solomona- will replace Rauhihis contract
Atkins- Will replace Johnsons Contract
Myler- will Replace Gleesons Huge Contract

Tell him Myler is on more than Gleeson was. Gleeson was on 150K at Wire.

Ok add to that Briers' wages (only count as half on the cap as he has had his testimonial) Morley wont be on less than 150,000 matt kings probably on £200,000 at least, Monaghan (sp?) is probably on around £150,000 too, add to that the two anderson brothers, lets say they are on at least £100,000 each, that is with me being stingy, thats half ur salary cap there!

but heres the thing - King is on 300K. That's not rumour, it was announced he was signing for 600K aussie dollars when he signed. Taking his wages out of the pot means they effectively have a cap of 1300K for everybody else. No way! Morley will be on money like Fieldon - ML hinted that Fielden wasn't the best paid prop in Superleague when Moz signed, so that'll be 200K. 2 players at Wire being paid 500K a year between them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can accept some of the like for like swops as like for like salaries (e.g. Mathers for Reardon). But Reardon was released from his contract. He wasn't sacked meaning he will have come to a contract settlement and that will have counted on the cap. So Mathers is probably on a small contract that then increases incrementally liek some of our players have.
Good luck to Wire with Solamona. He's a crock and a mercurial talent at the best of times.

Exactly right re King Rich. I think they even publicised his contract. As you say it only takes 2 or 3 players on big money and they pot diminishes dramatically for the rest of the squad which is why for example Saints have had to release players in the last couple of seasons and try to bring young players through in their places.
RL players and their agents know their value and they tend to get the bottom line at least and much more if they can especially during a bidding war.
