I think the club has an over inflated opinion of itself in terms of its ability to replace good players with either young players from the academy or 2nd rate players who no one on this forum would sign until we sign them.
They are perhaps not the only ones where inflated opinions are concerned. Anyone can see that a lot of players leave the club at the end of each year because the club has a large squad of good players and they can't keep them all. Like fishing, you keep the best and bigger ones, but throw the smaller ones back into the sea.

With the limitation of the better players that you can now sign from Union and the NRL these days, I would have thought that it was obvious that clubs now have to produce more of their own grown players, especially with inflation and a limited salary cap which never increases in line with the inflation.

As for comparing IL with ML, that is a non starter as the latter was at the club when all the Chairman had to do was to pull out a cheque book and signed all the best players he could lay is hands on and look where that led us to in the late nighties.

Not administration, but near to bankruptcy!

this leaves us really weak in the centres, even if they are bringing back joel as one.

So we'd have
Thornley: Good promise

Gelling: Karma player, for every good thing he does he does something of equal crapness, but I do like him if they can cut those brain farts out

Sarge: his strengths are at fullback I think

Basically the cap comment is fictitious, this is all about IL running the club cheap that's why we are seeing such a turnover, the sad fact is that he can do it because the state of the league is such where the talent isn't around.

This is why IL is against raising the cap it would allow the good dr and folk like him to make rugby league about marque signings and the best talent which IL doesn't want. IL knows that our youth setup is 2nd to none, so all we do is sign a 19yr old on a 4-5 year cheap deal if by the end he is a star sell him for £££ and bring another nice cheap youngster in to go again, if not he hasn't lost much.

Its a brilliant business model and Superleague is the perfect platform for it.

I wouldn't expect to see a Marque player in cherry and white again now while IL is at the helm unless its one of our own who will be sold as soon as his stock peaks.

The salary cap has a big part to play. In this situation Wigan couldn't match HKR's offer! I suspect the club had to decide whether to increase the offer to Goulding or invest in another player. Tough decisions need to made regarding who to retain and who we should let go. Obviously, the players sometimes decide that they want to leave the club it then comes down to whether the club make the player adhere to their contract or not (we know from past experience where the club stands on this, particularly if a healthy transfer fee can be negotiated!). It is obviously annoying when one of our juniors leave after years of coaching investment, but players are in this game primarily for the money and will therefore seek the best deal, the RFL need to support clubs that invest in youth by offering financial incentives e.g. relaxation of the salary cap rules or making clubs pay a transfer fee for any player that signs for another SL club if he is under 23.

Would you be upset if Goulding went and Wigan extended Hampshire's contract?[/

WIgan offered him 15k a yr less than his current contract and told him that he would make up the difference with his testimonial. It seems they didn't really try to keep him.

I'm guessing there is a bit of a similarity to the Tuson deal last year here and he will be more valuable to Hull KR than our club think he is to us, so would get more money there. Personally I'm not devastated by the one, would have been nice to keep him because he is a good player but he isn't great. He isn't worth paying lots to when this year has shown you need a large squad as much as you need individuals. We want to keep our young players so we need to pay them more too. I think sentiment is playing a part for some people here. Goulding has been average at best this year and you can't base your decisions on the past, you have to look at the present.

If it's going to be Sarginson & Charnley on the right then that is a very attack minded pairing, with both players capable of doing great things. Just as long as Dan works on his defense a bit more it should work out ok.
As for the left Budgie and Thornley is solid enough and Iain will help Budgie a great deal.

So even though i like Daz we can cope without him

He has had a knee injury since the world club challenge and has been playing in games far from fully fit for the club and seems to have gotten nothing but stick for it by some this season. Also the fact that he has had all of this going on for the last 2 months and is bound to have an affect on form.

Goulding is easily the best centre at the club and will be a big loss if he isnt replaced. Once again the club takes it for granted that players will stay for ever no matter how they are treated or how much they get paid.

As with hansen, I wish him all the very best. He has given long and loyal service to our club. I hope he goes well at HKR.
Incidentally, the last centre HKR took a shine to was Mr Charnley. He is a very good centre.
Could we perhaps wait and see what players we have coming in before assuming the worst? Again, as with Hansen, whose exit was condemned for months on similar grounds, if we have a Bateman to bring in we'll be trading up.

Are we allowed to assume that Scott Taylor is staying now? Because he would be a huge loss.
