Millward will give Wigan a good shake up. It's been needed for a few years now, Doris needs to retire, and IMO thats the real reason he's gone to Ozz

I hope Millwards appointment is announced tomorrow, we need to act fast, a defeat on friday would be a real killer blow !!!

As Mario said, Saints fell apart last season after losing Gleeson and Long. Any coach can do well when they have their full squad available. It's the players, not the coach, that make the biggest difference to results.

All we'll see tomorrow is another of your predictions proving to be, shall we say, pessimistic.

Maybe Betts will make the grade, but he needs to spread his wings and experience rugby away from Wigan IMO.

His "education" will not be enhanced unless he flies the nest (comfort zone) and perfects his craft where his (percieved) mistakes aren't as high profile.

One club men are rarely successful once their playing days are over and they take the hot seat at the same club.

I now watch the posts with interest as GeoffN proves me wrong!

would like monie back tbh. Or even Graeme Lowe. In my opinion Chris Anderson isnt good enough as I could have trained that aussie team to beat us 3-0 they were that good.

Would like Millward but also wouldnt like him its a hard one to call. Would still like Betts as the assistant though...

Fair points, Dave!
I agree it would have been better for Denis to have more time learning the coaching game; that's why he was assistant coach - but with MG's illness we didn't have that option.
Once in that situation, though, he should be given a fair crack at it, with a relatively full squad. Our results to date are much more to do with our injuries than the coaching (IMO !)...I'm still confident that, if we can keep the remaining squad (accepting the loss of Faz, O'Loughlin and Hock, but bearing in mind Saints' collapse last year, after losing just 2 players, not 3!) we'll be competitive for the remainder of the season.
I'm fed up with the "instant success" mentality that has seen us go through so many coaches recently, without giving any of them a fair chance.
He was "coach of the month" not very long ago! (ok, that's voted on by RL journalists, but some of them do know what they're talking about!)

I agree GeoffN.

If we don't get instant success from a coach "it's time to throw them out" It doesn't matter what credentials they have if we don't win every match convincingly or we only get to semis, it's time for them to go. When will we have a consistent coach as well as a team? When will we only let go of a couple of players per season and recruit new ones for those positions and have the same coach. The more change we have, the more of a transition period. There is no point in changing the coach right now and if we did would you (WNAC) not be complaining at what a stupid time it is to change just before a big cup fixture like Saints because in my opinion we've just got to build on what we've been doing so far this season, another coach would disrupt any flow we might be getting back.

Saints have had Ian Millward for 6 seasons and if you look at most of their players except new recruits, you'll notice that a lot of their team have actually been there from a decent age for the last 3 or 4 years. They weren't rushed into playing superleague and they've turned into favourites at Saints and ahem...'ok' rugby league players if I have to say it.

That's all we need, we could do without yet another "transition period before we're back to our old ways" Lets get some consistency

Yeah, great post. It goes with our great league position too..

By the way, us moaners aren't asking to win convincingly every week but maybe, just maybe, to remember that this is Wigan Rugby League Football Club, the most famous club name in the world, and that sitting clinging onto our league position, won 6, lost 7 will not do.

Also, Mrs Lam mentioned coaching credentials - what credentials does Betts have?

I was more referring to coaches of the past on that note. On the coaching side Betts has not really done that much for us and hasn't done anything for anyone else but everyones got to start somewhere!
