Yep, at centre, the signing makes a lot more sense.
I agree with DaveO to some extent, about announcing all these new signings now, but the club have to be seen to be doing something about our squad - I think there'd be a lot more criticism if everyone thought nothing was happening to at least attempt to improve our situation, even if only for next year. As far as de-motivating the existing players, it seems to me that most of them need a good kick up the backside, maybe it'll have the opposite effect now they know they've got competition arriving. Too many of them know they're going to play no matter how badly they perform, knowing there are no real alternatives.

Ta. All baldy Collins' songs sound the same to me, apart from Against All Odds. Maybe we should adopt that at Wigan if we manage to survive in SL next year...

I suppose you could say this is different than being last in the queue to sign players as we have appeared to be in recent seasons but the current situation takes the gloss of what under different circumstances might have been getting positive comments all round.

The only logical explanation for these high calibre signings must be that SOMEBODY senior in the club must be SUPREMELY CONFIDENT that we are staying up.
If they're correct I think we can become a force again within a couple of seasons.
Thank God we've still got the money and the name to attract top players.

i agree, it seems like the board are very confident that we wont get relegated even if we finish bottom, or second bottom.

On the other hand (not that I am one of the fans who thinks we will get relegated) imagine if we do stay up and it comes to the end of the season and we are trying to sign players for next year. Most of the top class players will have signed long before the end of this season. So, at least we are making some good signings in the hope that we will stay in Superleague. Imagine starting next season with no new faces and ending up in this seasons predicament all over again. To me it makes sense to sign players early and beat the other clubs to it.
