I may be able to end this thread right here (but somehow I doubt it! ). Can anyone name me:
1) an 18/19 year old in his first full season who is or ever has been the finished article.
2) A player ever who was perfect at everything.
Thought not....
Read my previous post, and please do your very best to understand that my comments are not ment as a put down to the player. I rate him highly, as I say read my last post, that sums up my view on him totally.
Fair enough Chris but IMO he is starting from a better platform at 19 yrs of age than Rads did. He certainly can improve but TBH even if he doesn't he will still do for me.
I agree that Rads had alot of benefits that Ashton doesn't. So comparisons are little unfair. As a rule I haven't compared the two though in any posts I've made though, I don't think.
My posts are ment to be of a constructive criticism, I like what he does with ball in hand, I like his support play. We have all seen what he can do going forward and how well he links up in attack. I just see things in his defensive game that worry me a little, and I want these things to be worked on by player and coaching staff together.
If this happens we will have a genuine world class fullback in our ranks within no time at all. Until then, we have a fine attacking fullback.

Completely agree with you Martin. Ashton is fantastic. Every game he gives it his all. I dont think there are any problems with his defence. He is 19 and already has shown what an amazing full back he is. To play in the superleague and to have made his mark like he has done is a massive achievement. He will be remembered as a legend!
You see to me, that's a blinkered view, blinkered by his attacking abilities papering over what he has to learn in defence.

Thought not? Oh your answering your own posts now, we may as well all pack in and leave all the posting to you eh?
Ashton does lack bottle, i've noticed it all season. That doesn't mean i don't rate him highly, it just means he lacks bottle, and bottle don't come with experience or (whats the other one always being mentioned in his defense?) better technique.

Sorry, I stand corrected. And your answer is....
:conf:
My answer ?!? What answer?!? There is no answer do you not understand? You can't teach someone to have bottle, you either have it or you don't. Geez!
Flash, I've made several posts I was waiting for you to reply to. Particularly the one on the last page which pretty much sums up my entire view on Ashton, any response ?
I want to see if you get where I'm coming from, instead of digging your heels in getting all defensive (word of the day) on me.

I would like to see your bottle at 19 years old on a rugby field! Let the kid learn his trade! Radds wasn't without fault when he first came through!

You have bottle or you don't, age isn't a factor. I don't really question his bottle though. However your arguement isnt a particularly good one.

To questions 1 and 2 above. Y'know the ones you were objecting to me saying "thought not" to. What's your answer to those questions.....Geez!
Right lets get this straight...
1) an 18/19 year old in his first full season who is or ever has been the finished article.
2) A player ever who was perfect at everything.
Can you explain WTF these two questions have to do with Ashtons bottle? and why the hell you think asking them two questions will be able to end a thread titled 'Ashton analyses'?

It is just an observation, not a personal attack on the kid. I think he is a great player with a great future hopefully at Wigan, but some people seem to be oblivious to the fact or need to take off those dark cherry and white sunglasses they have on.

totally agree with you.
Playing rugby is a funny old game and the most important thing for me is whats inside you pumping along. Some people call it heart some people call it bottle. One thing you cannot do is buy it or get it by experience of any length of time, you either have it or you don’t but without it you will be found out.
