Generally I am in agreement with all your gripes. I certainly will not be going and am assuming I will be able to watch us on TV. Regarding DaveO's valid comments on the value of next season's season ticket, don't forget you all possess the ultimate sanction!!

Sanction, yes, but unless something is sorted financially, 6 clubs are going to miss out on a home game.
Looking at us on our own, if it was a planned home game, based on this years gates, we would be losing at least 13-14k people through the gates.
A percentage of these will have already paid for a season ticket (unless the cost is reduced by 1 match) and then there are all the takings on refreshments etc...

The more I think about this......

Am I correct in thinking that Fraggle & DaveO are amongst the leading lights of the expansionists? If so, what is there to complain about? All the RFL is doing is attempting to promote the game in non RL areas, something which the majority on here seem to be in favour of. :sly:

True, but it's the old cracking a nut with a sledgehammer thing again. Why do all 12 teams have to go there in a weekend, why not, over the course of a season, have different teams play their fixture at, say, Brigend, maybe one game per month instead of having this massive event at the Millenium Stadium? Yes, clubs will still lose income from this particular match, but a Wigan vs Salford "on the road" game wouldn't be as big a loss financially to the "home" side as, say, having Wigan vs Saints and Bradford vs Leeds at Cardiff during the same weekend. Would Wigan vs Salford be as popular as Wigan vs Saints? Probably not, but on the other hand the locals would still get a chance to see regular top flight rugby league which is presumably the point behind this exercise. And single games would be priced more sensibly which would attract more of the fans of the teams involved. £30 is like another cup final, it's a bit of a jump from the £15 the game would normally cost at home.

And if they're doing this for Wales, why haven't they done the same thing in the South of France, had a round of Superleague over there to really promote the game to the Catalan people? Actually no, that's a bad idea because people might actually go to that on holiday and it might even fire up the interest of the locals, especially with their own team playing as well. We can't have something that might actually work...

Or even, if it has to be the Millenium Stadium, why not play a handful of Challenge Cup 3rd round games there over the weekend, why does it have to be Superleague? They could decide that this year's top 6 teams will play their opening Cup game at Cardiff, against whoever they get drawn with. The BBC normally take care not to have a top derby so early in the competition, but with us being where we are there's a good chance Wigan would get drawn against a top 6 team, although there's a chance of a Saints vs London Skolars (mis)match being drawn as well.

There's a lot of possibilities, I just don't think this is necessarily the right way to go.

I am all for expansion but this is not the way for me.

Why does everybody think it will be a Wigan v Anybody game?
On the basis that the bigger clubs will not want to lose an home game then it is just as likely to be
Anybody v Wigan and we will not lose on our season ticket. It is extremely unlikely to be Wigan v Stains as we will just have played them at the JJB on Good Friday and the return match will be a May bank holiday but the one at the end of the month not Mayday.

Ian they will do so IMo because they want a full stadium each day and Wigan v Saints on one day followed by Leeds v Bradford on another will help them towards that. Likewise, if KR get promoted KR v Hull is a likely match. Catalan v London. Warrington v Salford. Huddersfield v Cas/Wakey

thats the only way they can do it ,but do we want to play sts as our extra game ,think not . :eh:
