I also agree with most of what you have said. IMO there are too many fans who think they could do a better job than Nobby or his staff, yet these fans choose to stay in their own chosen vocation. If you are so knowledgable in the building, running and success of a professional rugby team, why don't you do some coaching courses and take the plunge.butt monkey wrote:Not on here as often as you used to be. To be honest, I think this period of difficulty is leading to a lot of chaotic thinking by some Wigan fans.
On one hand people are furiously demanding that we bring through the Academy lads, yet on the other they're calling for a new props to be signed, even though two of our current rotation props are ex-Academy.
We can't have it both ways.
I don't know whether we've signed Todd Carney or not, but perhaps we ought to remember that - thanks to Barrett's decision to go home early - we haven't got a stand-off for next year. This problem won't go away just because we sign a new prop. And Sam Tomkins is not the answer. He's still too young to play regularly at 6. In any case, IL dealt with that issue at the FF. He said that Tomkins would be blooded next year. Okay, some of us are choosing not to believe that, but that doesn't make it a lie.
As for TL - frankly, I can't understand the fuss. I think his erratic form and lack of inventiveness has played a big part in our problems this season. Not only that, he's compounded this by reportedly making idiotic comments about the chairman and the fans. And he's not exactly British himself. People are talking as if, in relegating TL to support-hooker, it's another Academy lad having the dirty done to him. Let's get real. TL can be good on his day, but he's no Tim Smith or Todd Carney. I thought we wanted to start winning matches. Surely at least part of the solution to that is is replacing average players with good players?
And to the guy who bushwhacked Noble last Friday, well done - you've probably made him feel even less attached to the club. I've become disillusioned with Noble, as I've said on many threads. I wish we could replace him with someone better ASAP, but getting into his face and being cheeky may have exactly the opposite effect from the one intended.
Granted there are also a lot of very knowledgable posters on here (CP, ButtMonkey, DaveO etc etc) but there are also an awful lot of people who have only ever witnessed the game from the sidelines. There is a couple who sit in front of me at the JJB and one of them is constantly moaning and berrating players, some of the comments are laughable. Yet these are the people who would have us believe that they know exactly where the coaching and playing staff are going wrong.
As much as I have tried to remain neutral in my views of which direction the team are taking, whether it be coaching methods or tactics, I have recently become more and more frustrated with what I am witnessing on the pitch. I know some of you are going to tell me it's been there for all to see for a long time, but I have always been of the opinion that the coaching staff know a heck of a lot more about the game than any of us do, as mere spectators. I have been prepared to give them time but unfortunately nothing seems to be happening.
Personally I am prepared to give Nobby one last season in 2009 to show us that he can coach and that improvements are being made, if there is still no improvement I will probably, then, start hoping that IL and JL can employ someone who can turn around the ailing fortunes of this great club and return us to the pinnacle of the sport.
I await the cries of "Sutty doesn't know what he's talking about"
