If Roberts isn't fit/in form/training hard enough to play fullback, then why not play him on the wing - the position he was recruited to play?
As you have said, Sam is incredibly brave as a last line of defence; however he is just not big enough to stop players at full tilt 5 metres out.
Yes and I don't want to imply he isn't one of the most fearless tacklers in the side. He will take anyone on in general play but one on one from being stood still with a forward running at him on the line is not going to result in many try saving tackles.
I prefer Roberts on the wing and Pat at the back from all of the available options (that includes bringing Phelps back or God forbid the return of Pryce on the wing).
I think that is probably the best option and I really hope Madge doesn't play Lockers at 6 next week. Deacon being out should not be a disaster that results in players like Lockers playing out of position. Deacon could not get in the side earlier in the season and we went very well against big teams. Yes this would require Roberts to get back his early season form but if that doesn't look likely as you say, play him on the wing.

Has anyone any ideas how the issue of poor standard referees across the board can be raised with someone with clout without sounding like a sore loser??? :conf:
They wouldn't listen even we had won.
I don't think you would get very far complaining about Leeds not being square at the PTB all night etc. They never seem to deal with such technical failings and would see it as a sore losers comment.
What I would like to know though is not why he didn't spot any of these technical problems but why when Leeds made Premier League soccer teams treatment of the ref look positively respectful the ref didn't penalise them or march them back?

Not taking into account the 79th minute debacle.
We made too many errors, knock ons, dropped balls and penalties given away.
Very poor kicking game.
Joel Tomkins had a stinker of a game, and realistically should have been sent off. His defence on Eastwood was lacking on his offload for the buderus try.
Lockers distribution was poor, and kicking diabolical.
I question why Sam was not put at 6 with Pat at fullback after Deacs went off.
Pat had an off night with the boot, he seems to struggle under pressure situations, therefore should Piggy have been given the option later in the game.
I counted at least 8 blatent Leeds forward passes that Alibert missed or chose not to punish.
The cheating levels that Leeds will go to, even extends to players shaking the goal posts to try putting the kickers off.
On the possitive side, Stu Fielden had a Trojan's game and we have another crack to progress.
Can we progress beyond the semi final - IMO not on tonights performance.

Dirty cheating BA****DS. I hate Leeds more than Stains.
Danny McGuire deserves an Oscar again for his acting

Designer injury methinks to avoid a sending off.

There is no point in putting any blame on the ref as he was shocking for both sides. We need to look to our own game. If we had stuck to our usual game plan we could have won that game. We need to cut our mistakes but more importantly petulant penalties. Joel kicking out under the sticks did not help. Leeds only put Bailey on the field to wind up opposition players to distrupt their game and we get drawn in everytime. Fielden was immense last night. We did miss him and Coley when they were off the field. I think the work we have done this season and winning the minors was a lot more than we hoped for. Just don't think we have got quite there yet for the GF. Lets hope we can get our heads back together and kill off HKR next week. Wonder who Stains will pick in their club call

Yes, I believe he did. Hock got 5 match ban for that. As DaveO has mentioned elsewhere, the once cast iron authority of RL referees is being allowed to deteriorate out of existence.
The rule used to be that only the captain was allowed to address the referee and had to call him 'Sir'! Now it seems some refs are fair game for every player. It needs sorting and quick because the integrity of our game is at stake!

remedial knee ligament damage according to Hetherington coming home in car in radio interview.
He should be playing in the elimination semi-final then.
