Add this up with the drop in running opportunities created by the inside players and I'm not surprised he's thinking about another direction for his future.
If he goes IMO he's been pushed - maybe not explicitly, but a drip, drip drip effect over the last few years. I guess if he has a great season this year it will make his decision harder, so if we can delay his negiotiations with Sale it might give us a chance to retain him. Plus, if he hits great form and gets back into the International setup it will give him more contract negotiating power so will increase our chances more. I doubt he'll wait though - he needs something lined up for next season as I understand it.
Or does he want more than what we can afford.
He's one of the few genuine class players of international standard we have. He should be a high earner here and should have been offered a substantial new contract before now.
Remember Sale lost interest and have only renewed it as they are losing players so by dawdling we missed a chance to offer him a deal he may well have signed.
The fact he isn't already contracted is the club's own fault. Same thing happened with Burgess (and if I recall correctly Ashton). Sloppy contract handling let others get a sniff in and once they did we had no chance.
Now you might argue Sale could come and wave the cheque book anyway but as we have seen the grass isn't always greener in RU and if he was on a good wedge here he may well have not been tempted.
2 good games in a season or 2 does not equate to a class player. Last season he was 3rd choice winger on form. Manfredi took his slot and Burgess after his slight blip was a CLASS player.
Amazing how Charnley is now class on 2 games whilst Gelling has played well in more and is crap be some.
Charnley of 2013 was SL best winger by a mile he has gone backwards since. Even with our poor attack he was not as good as the 2 we had last season who were also in a poor attacking side.
Josh certainly seemed to have an attitude problem last year, but has put that right this year good style. His free scoring days were with Goulding at centre who was a superb wingers centre, far better than Watkins in that area of the game. With Carmont on the left our wingers ran free.Josh has not become a poor winger overnight.Wecertainly need to try to keep him.Carney I feel is a penalty machine, always ready to square up.The rumour was that Josh's agent turned up in Sydney at the WCC game, and that didn't go down well with Wayne.Only a rumour though it might explain a few things.

Whose rumour?
Wayne who?
Agent turned up for what?
I do agree that our centres are not as good as Carmont and Goulding. But why is everyone making excuses for Charnley not having a "Wingers centre" when Manfredi and Burgess didnt do too badly?

Reference to his inability to hold the ball in the left and fend off with the right when he was hold up/in touch?
Although it is a vital skill for wingers/centres to be able to master this rule, switching wings for Josh may make this hard to adapt/unnatural so maybe a little harsh?

Is he class now because he might be going.
His record shows why he is class and when he has been fit he has outscored both Burgess and Manfredi on average. Add to that the way he has started this season now he is injury free looking back to his old self I can't believe his detractors are being so pig headed about it.
It is as if you are willing him to fail when he is clearly the better of the two wingers on form currently. You must be so disappointed.
As to Gelling he is just poor. Trademark mistake again last night (missed tackle to add to the 18 others so far, he leads the on that one) that cost us a try and ultimately the game while Charnley scored off the flattest Wigan attack in living memory.
Yes and no Nathan. He made the same mistake 3 or 4 times and cost us big time. If you are international class you adapt to holding the ball in the correct hand. Sadly he is a domestic winger going backwards in ability.

Easy to quote on an average when he is fit when since 2013 he may not have been fit by your estimation.
Seems mistakes are picked up on certain players but not on others.
So you believe the Josh Charnley in 2016 is as good as he once was Dave? and you believe that given the choice of Manfredi, Budgie and Josh you would select Josh over those two ever time?
Did you notice something last night? Widnes kicked in Josh's direction. If I was being one eyed I would say to exhaust him but I think we both know why Dave

Rubbish, he is playing well again in spite of having to play on the opposite wing to accommodate another right winger in Manfredi, and Sale must also think so, seeing that they are so desperate to have him for the remainder of their season.
Seems to me that your comments are based more on being bitter of him leaving rather than his form.
At the beginning of last season, Burgess also made some bad errors but I do not recall you slagging him off.
