Re: Been here before!

We were second bottom of the fai play index before this game but caned again with penalties and another sun binning. I expect we will be bottom now.
Why can't the coaching staff see being bottom of that particular league means you will get beat by teams like Saints missing their first choice front row?
Why are we seeing this every game?
Think you are replying to my post i am saying exactly what you are saying we need to go back to basics .There may be something wrong with our training methods too much time time in the Gym maybe and not enough time with ball in hand.

Re: Been here before!
When are we going to learn to stop blaming the refs every week. The team is not good enough. We are fast becoming a mediocre, mid-table club who will not be winning any silverware this season or any other while the team we have cannot do what they are paid for. I have been a supporter of Wigan since 1957 and will not stop following them now, but I just wish th these players that we have would start playing with a little pride instead of just turning up for the money for under par performances.
Re: Been here before!
I wouldn't be so worried if I thought today's thumping was a blip, but looking at the season so far, we've only managed to produce a couple of decent performances (one against Quins and another against Bradford who look like they got as many problems as us).
Now the bubble has burst, I can't help wondering what the hell happened in the closed season? I thought, for once, we'd be starting with a settled squad but the level of teamwork (by which I mean - anticipation, understanding, awareness, cohesion) on display has been non-existent. Never mind the non-partnership in the half-backs, even the forwards don't seem to know when to run off one another.

Re: Been here before!
We've been due a walloping this season - and today we got it. In every match I have seen thus far this season we have been average and scraped home. Today we faced a team that were up for it and it was clear that we weren't. Even now 6 hours after the final whistle, today's performance still hurts. Listening to the smug scouse ****s singing away was painful - however it didn't appear to hurt the players much - they pretty much gave in for the last quarter and couldn't wait to get off the field.
On the field we seemed leaderless. Without Hock in the side the pack had less aggression than a meeting of the brownies. The players looked either lethargic and disinterested or completely out of their depth. When things got tough no-one rallied the troops or attempted to steady the ship. Noble sat on the side-lines with a "here we go again" look on his face.
stains weren't even that good - we were just terrible. The ref didn't help; however even if silverwood was an incompetent muppet; I doubt it would have made any difference.
We seemed to have no planned moves or players who could trouble the defence. I fear for us when we face Leeds - because Bradford played much better last night than we did today and they got hammered.
I'm just grateful that there isn't any relegation this year.

Re: Been here before!
I think the first point is that the referees are being criticised/blamed because from all six of them, there is far, far too much whistling for penalties.
I secondly think that Colbon is not slow. I reckon that when he is in open field with space ahead of him, he is pretty quick.
Although he did have a shocker today, don't be calling for his head folks!!
All this "drop Colbon and never play him again" rubbish I don't agree with because he has one horror game and he gets this.
Not that I am excusing him (or any other player out on the paddock today) but as I have just said, he (Colbon) has one bad game and he gets this stick - come on guys!!
I am with all of you lot though. I will praise them when they win, and slate them (if needed) when they lose.
If the lose and put effort in, I will not slate them.

Re: Been here before!
I know you like Colbon, turf - however today he had an absolute shocker. He looked fragile before Pat went off - and once he moved to fullback he may as well not have been on the field.
On todays performance he won't be in the side once Mathers has served his ban.
There are generally 3 sorts of good wingers. Out and out speedsters ala Donald for Leeds. Blockbusters who barge people out of the way ala Vainikolo and fast footed freaks of nature ala Jason Robinson. A winger should instill fear in the opposition when he gets the ball and the only fear that I feel when Colbon gets the ball is that he will drop it - provided he catches it in the first place. He takes too long to get up to speed and just isn't fast enough for SL

Re: Been here before!
I know I like Colbon, basically because I would give him a chance to learn. He is only 22 years of age.
I know I am stating the obvious below and I know he had his (possibly) worst game of the season today but:
Give him chance. I suppose you could say that when Mathers gets back, then he may be dropped to get his confidence back.
That is most important, that he gets his confidence back after todays performance from him.
Another point that I picked up on, on another thread is that someone said he has never played FB before, which he was playing at (I think) when he made those two shocking errors.
PS: Only my opinion on Colbon!!

Re: Been here before!
Colbon lacks the confidence / self belief to be a SL player. On top of that he is not quick enough/evasive enough. His best stint for the academy team was at loose forward.
Stanton or Ainscough offer more potential.
