I don't want a "he might be a good coach in the future" attitude taken with our team.
If we can't get a Wayne Bennett or equally proven coach, then I don't think we should rock the boat too hard.
We are on the brink, we just need Noble to accept that only playing from game 10 or 11 onwrds isn't good enough.
And to get rid of Fielden of course.

The most diificult part in all this Exile, is to get Brian Noble to change his training & conditioning methods he has adopted throughout the whole of his first grade coaching career.exile in Tiger country wrote:Can anyone name a coach with a better first class rugby league record (not reserve level or second in command) that Wigan could get to take on the role?

To get him to change now, is like asking a murderer to accept his own guilt.
Somehow I cant see Brian Noble going for this.

I'm not convinced the new coach needs to be a previously successful one - we've tried that route with both Millward and Noble, and it hasn't worked.exile in Tiger country wrote:Can anyone name a coach with a better first class rugby league record (not reserve level or second in command) that Wigan could get to take on the role?

Look at some of the coaches doing well now in SL - Justin Morgan came from coaching Toulouse, Nathan Brown won nothing with St. George, Mick Potter had done nothing before taking Catalans from bottom to a CC final in 2007, and getting 2008 coach of the year, Terry Matterson came straight from playing to bring Cas up from NL1, and they're now level with us, John Kear has won nothing apart from the Wembley win 12 years ago (ouch!).

Hull beat Leeds at Cardiff with Kear in charge (2005?), but I take your point.GeoffN wrote:I'm not convinced the new coach needs to be a previously successful one - we've tried that route with both Millward and Noble, and it hasn't worked.exile in Tiger country wrote:Can anyone name a coach with a better first class rugby league record (not reserve level or second in command) that Wigan could get to take on the role?

Re: noble is a good coach
Noble is such a good coach that he gave the players yesterday off and Dave Lyon sits with him on match days but has no input into first team training.
Re: noble is a good coach
I've just enjoyed reading some very good posts on this thread and the good debate, I cannot add to the constructive critisisms put forward.
Now my side of the fence says get a new coach, if only because I've seen no improvement over the last three years, not getting my money's worth re. season ticket, boring, safety first rugby, shock at losing so many "winnable" games, same old excuses, not dropping under-performing players (unless they are young and can be bullied). I saw the word "coward" in one post, I thought it a bit strong but see the reason behind it.
Years ago, us supporters used to fill in sheets to say who we thought was the player of the season etc. now, would it be possible to have a poll or a ballot to see if Mr Noble would be welcome to stay another 12 months, or not?
Open it up to all the Wigan RLFC supporters at a given match to give a wider consensus of feeling, not just the views on this site.
Now in my opinion I've more chance of winning tonight's lottery (and I've not put it on!) Than Mr Noble getting a positive result to stay. As has been said, Mr Noble more than likely is a good chap, he's tried his best and things will not improve with no new ideas if he stays.
