The author of this thread mentioned that he didnt think some of the players listed should be getting £5 per game (see first thread) thats why I have mentioned it.

Too professional to discuss salaries? The great Wigan teams were obsessed by salaries. Read it and then believe it. Why? It is mutually beneficial for players to know what other players are receiving when it comes to negotiations in terms of their own value and how much money the club has to play with.

However, enlighten us, name the 5 biggest earners in the present Wigan team, state their approximate salaries.

I am not prepared to state any of the big earners approx wages, quite honestly my relative who plays for Wigan would be disguted with me and I dont think its right to discuss wages in such an open forum. Players probably do have an idea of what they are each earning but in approximate figures. Regarding my relative, the figures you have given are way off. I also know the wages approx of one of the other players you claim to know the salary of and unless he is telling lies then you are way off with his wages as well.
Does the player (your source) know that information he gives you (particulary around his team wates wages) is posted on this forum? Has he given consent to disclose personal information (even though its wrong!)??
Come on reveal your source, I will reveal whose relative I am and we can all have a little chat at the Harlequins game. I have a good relationship with many of the players (obviuosly through my relative) and I cant see them wanting personal information put on this board about there wages.

Irrespective of who's right or wrong here, I believe we should be told roughly how much players earn. The fans are the ones who indirectly pay those wages, after all.

Most people's wages in other jobs are common knowledge, why should they be any different?

I am sorry but I disagree however I am not looking for an argument and my real problem with this post is that it has given figures for a relative of mine and a some of his team mates that are completely wrong. Perhaps it would be better if the players wages were given by the club/rfl, then there would be none of this made up rubbish. I also dont like the fact that a player is being used for information and then its being broadcasted on here. That could cause a whole lot of trouble within what is a very happy camp.

I agree with SW. It might be nice from a nosey point of view, but anybodies salary is ultimately personal and private. If you dug about, you might find out roughly what my salary is at the University from guesstimating on public salary scales, but where I am on and beyond that is nobodies business.

I don't agree with this concept that 'we pay the players wages'. We do nothing of the sort. We pay Wigan RLFC gate money to get into the stadium and watch the game. What they do or don't do with that money is up to them. As a fan I'd hope they invest it wisely, but the ins and outs are not my concern.

I have to agree with SW on that score. I do not believe the clubs should as of right publish the salaries of their employees. Where do you stop? The players, the CEO?

I do think that within the game salaries are fairly common knowledge and I think agents are often responsible for leaking such information.

Too high by many for this year and even last year they were not that high.

The only player I can see whose contract was significantly less this season than last is Andy Coley and he is the most likely to have relatives living in Merseyside
