I'd have Budgie back in the blink of an eye, Wigan should have pulled out all the stops to keep him in my opinion. I'm not stuck on the idea it was the Sydney lifestyle thats attracted him away, money talks and sometimes you have to offer more than a few paltry Shekels to keep a player.Kittwazzer wrote:Wouldn't surprise me to see him back next season!Panchitta Marra wrote:Will be a big miss, his current form keeps him in the shop window for whichever route he wants to take forward.
If he is leaving, Wigan need to look at making a solid replacement, is Budgie content in Sydney, he'd be my first choice if the option was available.

I am in no doubt that Wigan did their best in trying to keep him but what can you do if a young lad wants to enjoy the delights of Bondi Beach while at the same time get a larger amount of money from a NRL contract which our game cannot match.Panchitta Marra wrote:I'd have Budgie back in the blink of an eye, Wigan should have pulled out all the stops to keep him in my opinion. That's where we will have to disagree WW, as I don't think Wigan did their best to keep hold of Budgie, and my guess it would be down to the money offered to him. It's only a guess, but a strong gut feeling.Whelley Warrior wrote:I am in no doubt that Wigan did their best in trying to keep him but what can you do if a young lad wants to enjoy the delights of Bondi Beach while at the same time get a larger amount of money from a NRL contract which our game cannot match.Panchitta Marra wrote:I'd have Budgie back in the blink of an eye, Wigan should have pulled out all the stops to keep him in my opinion. Whatever the age of a player, if he has something serious to offer a team he should be recompensed appropriately. The amount of matches won on the back of his skills and efforts deserves more than a paltry salary that would bebe offered to a kid.
This is a gut feeling WW, and ist anything I can say I know as true, but my idea nevertheless.

Why is it rubbish? Josh is a SL winger but not an international class winger. If he goes to Union, good luck to him. it offers him better financial security at a time when he is ageing and playing well below his best.Whelley Warrior wrote:Rubbish, he is playing well again in spite of having to play on the opposite wing to accommodate another right winger in Manfredi, and Sale must also think so, seeing that they are so desperate to have him for the remainder of their season.cpwigan wrote:Yes and no Nathan. He made the same mistake 3 or 4 times and cost us big time. If you are international class you adapt to holding the ball in the correct hand. Sadly he is a domestic winger going backwards in ability.
Seems to me that your comments are based more on being bitter of him leaving rather than his form.
At the beginning of last season, Burgess also made some bad errors but I do not recall you slagging him off.
ANSWER THE QUESTION; 2015 Budgie, Manfredi, Charnley who would YOU drop.

In 2015, Manfredi and Burgess for the obvious reason that Charn ley was out injured for part of the season and it took him time to regain any of his previous form on his return. This season the it is a different situation as we no longer have Burgess and if we lose Charnley who is playing well, we are down to one experienced winger of quality.cpwigan wrote:Why is it rubbish? So who do you see playing on the left wing if he goes to Sale Sharks?

The club wasted too much time about renewing Budgies contract & only started negotiations, I've been led to believe, when it was too late.Panchitta Marra wrote:That's where we will have to disagree WW, as I don't think Wigan did their best to keep hold of Budgie, and my guess it would be down to the money offered to him. When Joe told Waney, he was furious that he was gonna lose him!
Joe would still have been here if Wigan had expedited contract talks with him!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

If it was as you say, why did no other Super League club on hearing of the situation at Wigan move in to offer him a better contract to stay in our game?josie andrews wrote:The club wasted too much time about renewing Budgies contract & only started negotiations, I've been led to believe, when it was too late.Panchitta Marra wrote:That's where we will have to disagree WW, as I don't think Wigan did their best to keep hold of Budgie, and my guess it would be down to the money offered to him. Why did he not ask for a transfer to push the club into offering a better contract.
No, the fact remains that he had set his stall out to go down under for a bigger contract than what any of our clubs could offer and like those before him, enjoy the lifestyle down under.

It would appear that the also applies to yourself seeing that your opinion on the matter was based on what you were led to believe by someone else!josie andrews wrote:If you say so!!!Whelley Warrior wrote: If it was as you say, why did no other Super League club on hearing of the situation at Wigan move in to offer him a better contract to stay in our game?

As long as Charnley lets Wigan know of his intentions early enough then it shouldn't be a problem. They can then decide to sign from outside the club or give another of the young players a chance. In reality that would probably be Jack Higginson, but I see him more of a centre than a wingman. As for Burgess, Josie and WW are right and wrong. Negotiations started with him very early in the season, and it looked at one stage as if he may stay. However Wigan could not or would not match the valuation that he wanted or Sydney were willing to. He has a three year deal in Aus, but if he doesn't get game time will he want to stay, the lifestyle is great but he is a rugby plasyer who will want to play at the highest level possible.
