First Try Tickle wrote:Well I thought the game was boring, but this had nothing to do with the teams playing as I think both defences cancelled each other out.

Its the ref with the bloody whistle. mid way through the second half there had been 20 penalties. Everyone of these results is a break in play, stops momentum and leads to another 3 boring forward drives. Add to these where he gives knock on that didn't happen and then going to the screen to see who knocked the ball dead and we have a stop start dull game. He even pulled a forward pass in the second half that no one in the stands shouted for.

I had 2 blokes stood next to me from Leeds, it was their first live game and they kept asking why everything was being pulled up. They got bored during the second half and went for a pint, never to return.

Leeds are now complaining saying we slowed the play the ball down to much and the ref did nothing about it. What do people want 40 penalties a game. In the last few minutes Leeds were almost demanding a penalty to win the game, as they knew they couldn't score.

I really don't know where are sport is heading at the moment.

:conf:
Noticed a lot more playing for penalties too as a result of an active whistle - that was from both teams!

Last season I was one who complained about watching boring rugby and thoroughly fed up with endless injuries affecting squad selection and results.

This season has shown that matters are on the mend. The rugby has been of far better quality and enjoyable to watch. Results have improved dramatically. Last year I said I thought the club should get an attacking coach to assist SW and I haven't changed my mind.
Injuries are back at sustainable levels.

The club has obviously worked well to avoid last year's problems and deserve praise for this.
I'm sure given time the club will sort out the who is leaving, who is staying and who the arrival(s) will be. We may learn more on May 1st.

That's pretty much how I feel. Things are on the up, and I see no reason for pessimism.

Are things on the up though, looking good against inferior teams might make some fans feel good but we have come unstuck against 2 of the top sides (Wire & Saints) and had a very close call against Leeds, too early yet for me to get excited, Fair enough we looked decent in the games against the lower teams something that we never did last season, i believe we will get better but i won't give praise until we are beating teams convincingly on a regular basis

Standard across the board has dipped again, i expect us to continue to win the games that dont matter and lose the games that do - we wont know this till later in the season as none of these games have any meaning anymore until at least the super 8's

I remember a game in 1987 with only 5 penalties and no tries. One of the best games I have ever seen.
