To not recognise Murphy as the instigator or at least a huge contributor to Wigan's sucess is just nieve and daft.
Well I would say to attribute the next ten years success to the time Murphy was at the club is equally daft. As you said Murphy took us to a level higher than Bamford but probably wasn't going to take the club any higher.

There was therefore no guarentee that the good work Murphy did wold be continued. It wasn't a finished job and Mo was the steward in charge of taking the club up another level. This he did by appointing the likes of Loewe and Monie.

Mojo for me has done great work, but now he is beleiving his own propoganda that he should make playing staff decisions. He did well, with Bots and how much his influence was in bringing in Miles, Hanley, Kenny...well I just don't know. The fact that Wigan were an up and coming side. Guaranteed sucess and a bumper wage packet would help.
So yes, he's done great work, but he should as he is leave the playing staff decisions to his coach.
And hasn't he done just that? That is one reasn why I don't get the constant slagging off of Mo. In the past the success of the club with him in charge speaks for itself. You can argue the toss as to why it was successful but if people want to blame Mo when things are not going so well because he is in charge then as he was in charge during the good times he ought to get the credit.

He has now stepped aside from the signing of players and let Millward make his oen team.

It seems to me in the past he made good decsions and now, by letting Millward have his way, he has made another good decision.
He's not as worthless as some make out, but he's not even close to being as great as other make out.
I don't think anyone thinks he's great in that sense but I think it is unfair to only concentrate on the negatives to the extent of even suggesting some of the good he clearly did was done by someome else.

In truth to the disscussion above it comes down to a matter of trust. As posted he was leading the club during the glory years and for this i credit the man however his face and voice seemed to be everywhere and it was a constant barrarge of press releases.During the difficult years we have had in SL he has gone very quiet in fact the only time i seem to see him is when he is announcing new players basically positives which may be down to his influence. What i want is him to be as vocal about the direction the club is taking during the bad years and his long term plans rather than hiding.
More transparency means more trust and this is what he lacks. :sly:

Doug Stand, Well said about The Mouth. it was when we signed Murph, the last good coach we got out of St Helens by the way, that for the first time since I returned from the colonies I believed that Wigan were once again set to be a force in the game and that was the year I got my first Family ticket for myself and 2 sprogs, this later transhumanced (clever pun there for you literates out there) into the two adult season tickets (eldest sprog began travelling the world in 1994 and has not been back for any long enough period to make it worth making that three tickets), which the arrival of TAP has forced me to cancel next season. Seats M130 and M131 in the West Stand up for grabs now folks.
