I wish I could swear on here because he is just winding me up now! Bottom 6? My a**e. Leeds will be in the top two and have a very good team. Wigan will be in the top 3. WNAC go back to knowsley road please or go the latics where you belong. They will love your negativity there.

I know the results do not make for pleasant reading but do not be too disheartened. We are not anywhere near our best yet and we played a top 3 team off the park in the first half.

You what? Had they not bombed three chances with the line begging on the Wigan right in the first half the half time score would have looked very different. OK they didn't take their chances but to say we played them off the park is simply not correct.
O'Loughlin will be a fine captain. Do not write people off too quickly.
Given I said he was not ready to be captain long before he was appointed, I am not basing the fact the he cleary isn't a captain on a gut reaction to the fact we looked like a rudderless ship in the second half.

Once Leeds got a roll on he was unable to rally the troops and it was just like last season all over again. No leader on the park.

On the evidence of the two games so far my opinion on appointing Lockers as captain has been vindicated so far.

I presume he was selected at stand-off to beef our defence up.
If that was so then his selectiuon there is even more bemusing because if there is one thing Orr can do it is tackle.

How often has it been said on this message board Orr does too much work in defence? Now he has been dropped so his replacement can improve it!

As others have said if Orr is out of favour and Brown is so good why are we playing Lockers at stand off!

If Brown isn't gong to be given a chance when Orr is droped then there are better players for a bench spot in my opinion.
I just keep thinking add Hock/Fletcher/Rads to that team and you have an awfully good team.
It can hardly get any worse! Any team that loses at home by letting in 22 unanswered points in the second half from 16 nil up is, well, garbage not to put too fine a point on it.

Games last 80 minutes not 40 and they can look like mega stars for the first 40 but if they collapse and loose like that it counts for nothing.
It's hard when you see such a good first half to stomach defeat but do not crack, do not turn on players. They will come good.
I decided as it was the first game of the season to make the journey back to Chester after work to pick my son up, then to Hindley to pick my Dad up. I left work at ten to four and sat down at the JJB five minutes before kick off.

I feel given my efforts to support the team I can vent my disgust at that pathetic second half with some justice. As far as I was concerned I was short changed.

Did any of the players get coaches player of the match? I hope not because on that second half performance none of them deserved it and I'd be surprised if they had the gall to show up in the bar afterwards.

Complete and utter garbage.

Dave
In all honesty DaveO you sometimes go on a bit too much for my liking but credit to you mate with this post. You are absolutely spot on. We have every reason to expect the very best this season and this tripe is totally unacceptable. I don't care how we managed to be clear at half time (we certainly didn't deserve it) but to capitulate in the way we did was nothing short of disgusting.
Finally, quite ironic that at the end of the day we missed Orr's tackling. I'm no fan as you all know but maybe we could have held on if he had been available from the bench. As other posters have said, the Orr/Brown mystery deepens. What the hell is Basil thinking? Is Orr not good enough? Is Brown the answer? Why waste a subs spot on a player who only got 5 minutes? The whole situation is barmy and we need to know in what direction we are heading.

yeah i agree with that last night he looked scared to run with the ball wonder how long millward will put up with that i think leeds got the better of that deal i just hope he starts to prove me wrong soon but i think he will be a flop at wigan if he does prove me wrong i will be frist to say i was wrong and will be happy to say so

I think the reason Brown only came on late was because his arm hasnt fully healed
Then he should not have been in the 20 man squad never mind on the bench. FWIW I don't think it was anything to do with his arm. Just a waste of a bench spot by Millward.

What is the deal with calderwood picking up the ball and jogging it back until the defense is right on him then he charges? its a bad joke if you ask me and costs about 5-10 metres a time.

I am a tad saddened at the incredibly negative response by several people. Even Dave O who I consider a quality contributor normally.

Anybody criticising O'Loughlin on the basis of 2 matches is no better than the Saints fans that used to say Faz was a poor captain when we lost to Australia. Your doing exactly the same. Two matches to make a judgement is irrational. You could argue that IM is wrong to put him at stand off and burden him more. I will say this now, O'Loughlin will be a superb captain. Mark my words and I will remid you doubters when he proves himself.

We have low two matches. Catalan was an odd game. We could have won but don't new teams tend to do well in their first matches? Away too. Dodgy refereeing. ANYBODY who compares Salford v Catalan with our match has rocks ijn their head. Catalan without Jones for 70 minutes cannot be compared with the previous match. Anybody surmise, our result had they only had Jones for 10 minutes?

Leeds. Are Leeds noty a very good team? Do they not normally start the season superbly? Dave they never scored in the first half because we defended superbly. Moran on Ali was one of the tackles of the season. We looked like world beaters for the last 10 minutes of the half.

Whatever the reason, half time came at the wrong time for us, right time for them. We conceded penalties again which did not help. Most I would have given. I Thought the Logan one was poor. Provided a player does not move and impede the hooker I say you should play on. If you take things to the letter of the law, Smith piggy backed on Dallas after his excellent tackle. Our conversion of chances into tries was poor. Lots of half chances, no scores. One score = a win. Our kicking game got worse. Theirs got better. Lest we forget they are a bloody good team. Great game. sad we lost.

Thus far, we have shown we can defend anywhere apart from on our line, we have shown we can attack in patches. We have a lot of improvement to come and I would rather get better and better than be at our peak now. NO club can sustain their peak level for so long. In SL you have to make the 5, then you need to win (you can even carry a loss then). The Challenge Cup are must wins. That's just the way it is now.

Positives - Ashton, Hargreaves and Fecka is just the best forward to watch in SL at the moment.

Lighten up guys, show some backbone. We will come good WHEN IT MATTERS

Dave and others as for being short changed. Well out of order. The players gave it their all. If the effort is made you are not short changed.

Can anybody clear it up? Was Orr injured ? or droped?
Orr was dropped. If you look at the Sporting Life web site reports it confirms Orr was dropped.

Any team that concedes as many points as we did in the second half to nil, at home, is by definition not putting enough effort in.

As to Leeds et al are we to simply accept there are better sides than us in the league without complaint?

We have suposedly recruited well and got a much better team than last year but it is same old story at the start of the season for us. This is not acceptable.

Leeds are not as good as they were last year as a side and if you think it was down to our defence that they didn't score you must have missed Senior drop the ball with line begging when no one had a hand on him.

As Fraggle says elsewhere it was harder to drop it than score.

We didn't get out of own half for 25 mins in the first half so anyone taking comformt from the scoreline at half time is deluding themselves as to it being a good performance.

In the second half it was one way traffic. The few breaks we made were snuffed out. Dallas had a clear run to the line but was caught as he has no longer got the pace.

Here is a quote from the Leeds coach:

"I was quite pleased with them in the first half too," added Smith.

"Apart from a seven or eight-minute spell, we were the better team - and fortunately they had enough faith to bring them home. There wasn't a whole lot to panic about."

He is dead right. They were the better team for the majority of the match and Wigan rode their luck in the first half to lead at half time.

The reason we lost this week is the same as it was last week. The team is not good enough and its about time it was.

Dave

Sorry Dave but you notion that to conceded 4 tries in one half = a lack of effort is nonsense

As for not being good enough. You stick to your premise. I will stick to mine and we will agree tyo disagree but see who is right at the end of the season
