Who's to blame this week?
Re: Who's to blame this week?
The one aspect Noble has to assume responsibility for is selecting an unbalanced 17. It is no good then bemnoaning bad fortune.

Algrego welcome to the site.
You are perfectly entitled to your opinion as those you condemn are also entitled to theirs. I do not think and indeed I would be critical if anybody did criticise the club to such an extent based upon a single game.
However, those you lambast are lifelong Wigan supporters who have supported Wigan for decades and often have reasons for not attending last night. Ancient and Loyal has followed the club up and down the breadth of the country for several seasons. He did not attend last night because in 2009 he has to economise and save for a wedding.
I did not attend, the cost being too great and selfish on my part had I done so with Valentines / Anniversary celebrations this weekend. I will watch the game, several times on DVD this week. I often watch the games 2 and 3 tims after seeing them live to form a true opinion.
Nobody criticises Wigan RL lightly, nobody wants too. However, to pretend the club does not have problems would be equally wrong. Even thosewith the most Cherry & White tinted spectacles can see it.

Who is to blame?
I only heard the game on GMR (isn't t'internet wonderful?) but the commentary suggested that we did have a good game plan, but poor execution, especially second half, dropped balls, knocking on, losing the ball in first/second tackles. This would suggest that the responsibilty lies with the players.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Get your "facts" right about this. He had agreed to sign for Warrington half way through last season - fact - end of.pedro wrote:Higham wanted to saty but was never even spoken to about staying...He was gutted to leave

Its the same game plan as last season without Trent pulling us out of the poo with his talent. I went to the Wakey debacle and its safe to say the coach is to blame for the inconsistant way we play.
We have no width, we have no cohesion and we have no natural leader. Smith is trying things to get the team going, were just not reading it. The forwards dont seem to be making an inpact and our defensive pattern outwide is quite shocking with only Bailey seeming to cover people way out of position.
It just cant last. Dont get me worng Noble is a great coach if his team is full of big men, ours hasnt. We must have one of the lightest teams in Super League and one of the slowest. If you take away Feka and Roberts its worrying.
The coach is to blame for killing our ruck speed with the Higham nonesence. Hes to blame for no dummy runners, options in attack and hes also to blame for turning a top try scoring winger into an average mistake ridden player(Calderwood). The evidence is overwelming in favour of the watching fans and if you cant see it you need to get the rose tinted glasses off.

Re: Who's to blame this week?
As I see it. Good to fantastic players (with international recognition) look mediocre or at best very poor at Wigan. Worse still, the average or mediocre players look like they have never played a game of RL in their life before. Yet whenever any of them move on, for whatever reason, their failings do not appear as severe nor their form as bad.
Why is this? Who is at fault for this? Is this simply poor recruitment (at all levels)? Has this nothing to do with coaching (and as such they are blameless as some are attempting to state)?

Re: Who's to blame this week?
elgrgo, I didnt make any of my opinions heard when i started this (popular) thread. We lose, obviously another week, so there must be 'someone to blame' hence 5+ pages of discussion.
My views:
I listened on GMR and could only go off the comments form the reporters. We played well for 65 minutes but couldnt execute in the final 20 metres. Even that tells you alot. it's deja vu for a lot of games Wigan play in. You can guarantee when St Helens are in field position they will execute, anyone can make a score. IMO with Wigan i feel we dont have the flare to finish off moves other than a 50.50 kick into a corner or high ball. Our problems as I see it are execution. Phelps knocking on in prime score opportunity is an example... knocking on second tackle deep in hulls half. We dont have the players apart from perhaps the likes of Hock who can do a nice bit of individual play (Bradford playoffs anyone?)
Phelps has no skill what has he brought to us? Im sure Smith/ Riddell and Leuluai will click soon its just annoying it isnt any sooner. The likes of Bailey are monotonous.
The coaching staff at present are being out-coached by 'lesser' coaches on tactics. It seems we can't execute any set plays, thats to say if we have any.
Our defence is ok you'd expect to let in one or two scores per game... the top clubs do thats rugby league. Our problems are attack. With smith we know we have a guy who can find range for 40/20s and good yardage so we can get upfield, expect to see more of it when the ground hardens.
so whos to blame? A concoction of players (individual errors), coaching (set plays, tactics), lenegan (recruitment)
multiple are varying reasons
