Actually DaveO, I would turn that comment around by saying that Wigan made Offiah more than Offiah made Wigan! He had never scored 10 tries in a match for Widnes and certainly never did it for London.

He made a name for himself by joining the best of the best in the days when MoMo couldn't keep his hands off the chequebook!!

Had he not signed for Wigan, he would have eventually faded into obscurity alongside the likes of similar talents such as John Woods and Des Drummond!

He certainly would not be commanding anything like the respect he now aspires to enjoy as a pimp!!

he was injured for 2nd half of season.

before that, you could ask the same of why Sam T didn't start - Noble didn't think he was ready. but Sam was, and i think shaun was ready for a proper shot too. drop him if you must, but don't do it after he scores three tries in a match!

What a load of rubbish! he was a legend of the game for Widnes before he joined Wigan and arguably played some of his best rugby for them. Remember widnes at the time were world champions. His record for widnes and wigan were very similar in appearances/tries... to say he would have gone into obscurity is nonesense. He scored 40+ tries for widnes one season breaking a record... 1990? To base things on scoring 10 tries, only 3 people have done that, something that will never happen again in the modern era that comment is ridiculous. If you look at the leeds semifinal game where he scored 10, after try #6 the wigan team blatently stopped their own try scoring to give the ball to offiah at all costs so he could add another one on.

Des Drmmond? I dont suppose being a GB international is exactly obscurity.
