Got something to discuss about RL in general? Then this is the place to post it.

Martin Offiah

Post by Kittwazzer »

I see the unofficial voice of Rugby League has opened his gob again!

I will probably get shot down here but I always thought he was one of the most over-priced, over-rated players we ever signed. Face it, anyone would have looked good in the Wigan team of his era! Admittedly he was fast but his defence was garbage. When we played against him at Widnes, we used to target his wing every time!!

If I were to name my all time favourite wingers who I saw play (and that does not include WJB), Offiah would not make the top 5!!

Yes, it's always instructive to see what a poacher turned gamekeeper has to say. So we need more serious talent to compete do we? And correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Mr Offiah is an agent for such talent.
Well, in the immortal words of Mandy Rice Davies "He would say that wouldn't he?"

Whilst I think that Martin was outstanding during his time at Wigan (you need only watch that try at Wembley for evidence of this). I am sorry to say that since he has become an agent; I've lost a bit of respect for him.

Clearly he tailors his comments to suit his business interests. Were he not an ex-player then he would receive as much attention as other agents do.

Interviewer: So that obviously means that you're not going to St Helens and you're not going to Leeds?

Frano: I don't know why I would ever want to go to St Helens or Leeds

Erm... what's he said? I never liked Offiah after he refused to sign an Autograph for me at a nines tournament at Central Park when I was a kid, petty I know but what a turd

I don`t agree with this thread , Offiah scored a lot of tries with his pure pace , at the end of the day that`s what a wingers there for and his credentials are that he had pace .
I`m right to say that he scored more than he let in .
Whatever he does now is immaterial he was pure excitement to watch

Hi Matt,

I've got to agree with you here. It was embaressing to see him talking up Myler on a near weekly basis, all the while he was hawking him around the clubs for a better deal than Salford could manage.

In any other profession, there would be a conflict of interest and it would be unethical to use national coverage to inflate interest in your own client.

Sorry. Agent. Ethics. What a stupid idea to moot.

Whilst I rate Martin Offiah as one of the best wingers I have seen play, I think the comments he has made regarding player quality are utter garbage. You only have to read the comments made by Kris Radlinksi in his autobiography regarding the degradation of players attitutde during his time at the club to understand the impact a good/bad coach can have on a team. Yes good players are important but with the salary cap imo you are never going to get the team of superstars that we had in the early to mid ninties.

I personally think Martin Offiah was an outstanding player but I am fast loosing respect for anything he says. (I think it started when I say him trying to sing on Stars in Your Eyes :D )The more he speaks the more I think he is just turning into your run of the mill gready football agent out for as much commission as possible.

He would be peppered with high balls in todays game and let loads of tries in but I agree he was good to watch with ball in hand
