Thornley and Gelling are worse centers than Goulding right now. If they get better great, but they haven't done so far.
Neither will become an Iro, Inga or Carmont IMO.
We need better quality than hoping unproven players will suddenly develop. Where were we when Moon was available?

The club do think he's worth the money he's on, as they offered him a new contract. They mustn't think he's worthmedlocke wrote:how many games has Gelling had since he's been here, not that many, remember if he wasn't getting first grade games he wasn't playing, i'd like to see how Goulding would have done under the same circunstances, just face facts, you and others are wrong about Goulding, if the club don't think hes good enough for the money hes on then he isn't, next year will show how average he is and many won't be impressedmickw wrote:you talk about average players then say Thornley and Gelling will do the business, them two are still striving to be average.medlocke wrote: Find it quite entertaining that fans are getting so upset over the departure of an average player at best, it's a sad state of affairs when a club like Wigan has a player of such standard classed as their best, when in the past we have had such greats as Tuigamala, Renouf, Ashton, Connolly, Bell, Carmont etc, the club and coaching staff know what they are doing, so not really bothered my self, Gelling and Thornley will do the business in the future, they just need to be given some time to grow into their roles, i seem to remember certain fans rattling on for several seasons that Goulding had to be given a chance, he got that chance and has gone as far as he can at Wigan.
what HKR are prepared to pay him.
As for Gelling, he could play hundreds of games at centre and he still wouldn't be as good as Goulding, in my opinion of course.
Re: goulding gone
Memory plays tricks. Renoulf was well over the top on arrival at CP. as were the Wigan forwards as Saints started their battering, and Wigan speeded into the decline spiral.

Young Mick or owd Mick Nanyn, at least we'd have a good kicker but owd Micks carrying a bit of a keg around under his shirt these days.cpwigan wrote:I daresay Mick Nanyn is available

I agree. I respected Rads as a player but he is just a yes man to Lenegan now.cpwigan wrote:I thought players at 26 were approaching their peak :conf: It is quite a sad departure IMO. I await the signing of Mick Nanyn or somebody from one of the lowest clubs in SL.
Rads is a yes man / a lacky. Plenty to say before being given a job, NOW nothing of merit.

Thornley still has a lot of potential and started off the season very well. He is much more of a centre than Gelling or Sarginson imo and would be okay as one centre. As for the other we desperately need a quality signing.
As for Goulding he signed for Hull KR some time ago so its hardly a shock but still disappointing to see it confirmed. He is a quality centre and I dont think the club should be letting the best centre at the club go. Hull KR have got themselves a very good signing.

If what you mean by CP was Central Park, Renouf signed for us when we moved into JJB.menpond wrote:Memory plays tricks. Renoulf was well over the top on arrival at CP. as were the Wigan forwards as Saints started their battering, and Wigan speeded into the decline spiral.
And I would also take "the pearl" at that stage of his career than any of the players we have at centre at the moment

Re: goulding gone
Thornley is the only genuine centre remaining once Golding leaves. Sarginson (for me) is a full back/wing and Gelling is a stone underweight from being a fantastic second row- however with us being blessed in the second row department it seems Gelling is being pushed towards being a centre.
Re: goulding gone
I hope Gildart is not rushed. He is a fantastic prospect but he needs looking after and allowing to develop.
