Maybe that's all the talking, laughing and joking he did after being taken off the pitch.
Are you saying he isn't hurt?

I saw his face on the big screen in the second half and it looked like the whole left side was caved in. I was supprised he was on the bench and not in hospital!

Absolutely right Mike.

He is out for the season and the Tri-Nations further limiting GB options.

Newton is up on two seperate charges of striking. One resulting in a fractured eye socket and the other having the player stertchered off missing the rest of the game and also out of this weekend's action.

He's in for the high jump IMO.

I love Newton as a player, gives everything and backs it up with immense talent, but when hes in the frame of mind that he was in on Friday he is a liability and is a danger to have on the pitch, he deserves everything he gets at the disiplinary today, I dont like seeing players get banned, but I dont want to see players getting their face caved in by a player who has completely lost his marbles like Newton did on Friday, like I say he deserves everything he gets, unfortunately its not just him who suffers, its the club aswel as they have to replace him for the games he misses.

Might as well throw my 2 bobs worth in...

I like Terry Newton, I like the fact that he is highly motivated and at times extremely talented. I don't mind a bit of "enforcement" Kelvin Skerrit always played that way and it's nice to see that the game matters that much to them.

However I can't defend the long incident.

I've seen a few fractured eye sockets in my time and it is not an injury I would wish on anyone. Had the broken socket damaged the eye then Long could have gone blind.

I don't like long - I think he is a whining, gamesmanship player who fits into the saints underhanded way of playing. He should have been banned for a lot longer for his betting scandal and should have had an extension when he complained about the "severity" of his ban after it was completed (despite pleading guilty at the inquiry).

If Terry Newton wanted to decapitate long then he should do it with a legitimate hit - most of the people on here would be only too pleased to see that.

What I don't want is for Wigan to be called a dirty club like saints have been. There are numerous incidents involving saints players and dirty tactics - like Wellens kicking Dallas in the knee when he scored in the CC final at Murrayfield (or Newlove's elbow to the face when Dallas was on the deck). Northey's shoulder charge that nearly broke Rob Smyth's neck, as well as the current usual suspects of hooper, fozzard, wilkin etc the list goes on and on.

I don't want Wigan to be like that. I expect a hard, physical game and if there is the occasional bout of fisticuffs then that's one of those things. However I don't think we should sink to saints' level

"And Martin Offiah, trying to make some space, now then..." - Ray French, Wembley 1994

Interviewer: So that obviously means that you're not going to St Helens and you're not going to Leeds?

Frano: I don't know why I would ever want to go to St Helens or Leeds

Great post Mathew, I agree 100%, Regarding Stains being a dirty side one of the Stains board was on radio merseyside calling Terry Newton a thug, Although he did not actually use Newtons name we all know who he was talking about, His best comment in the interview was when he said " I am very pleased that we don't have any thugs at St Helens " How laughable is that? I suppose if he believes it the Stains fans will, I can recall many incidents involving Stains players over the years, One great battle i always looked forward to was Sonny Knuckle and Kelvin Skerrit
