Completely agree if a player is off let them go
How? He is under contract for this year.
Release him that’s how
Quite easy really if you think about it

Hill has done nothing wrong and you’re suggesting Wigan buy him out of his contract, release him and spend the money on the cap losing a player in the process.
Same with Byrne as well?
Makes absolutely zero sense at all.

"Could be a cap issue", we need to sort things out, w**ky Warrington don't seem to have issues with a salary cap, just keep signing players like Sneyd, who will be on big money
We are not even operating at the cap this season.
Billionaire bob tightening the purse strings Chariots?
I wouldn’t think so Fozzie, we will have to see what the recruitment is like for 2026 before we comment further.

I bow to all your complaints. Moved to the Main forum.
Do you think he will be here for the rest of this season btw?
Is that a cryptic message Josie?
In what way?
I thought that by asking the question you may have information that Harvie would be released early, like Nicholson.

I think we better get used to these type of exits. Players can discuss contracts elsewhere really early now and some won't keep waiting for offers from Wigan or won't accept lesser offers, when minutes aren't guaranteed.
We'll keep the players we're desperate to and the younger ones, who can see how a path will open up to a first team spot but lads like Byrne and Hill, who probably sit in those sort of 17-20 positions in your squad, will likely get picked off by decent offers elsewhere.
Quite a few clubs have financial backers now but don't want to spend money on proper academies and prefer to let other clubs do the work for them.

Excellent points, especially the last one.
On this new system of announcing moves months before - maybe this happened behind the scenes and player A says "I'm not getting first team rugby and I don't see that changing, its a short career and I'm off" - not sure who this new way helps?

It's a balancing act for the player I suppose. Hill can't see the future but if he gets a first 17 spot here before the end of the year, which would've potentially got him a better offer from the club, then you feel like it's something he could regret.
In terms of my own POV, I'm not hugely fussed with Byrne. I'd keep him in an ideal world but I don't see him going much past his current level, which is that of a good superleague prop but not a great one. Harvie Hill on the other hand, I'm frustrated with that one. We've only scratched the surface yet and I think his ceiling is higher than Byrne's but after putting years of work in to him, we won't really see the benefit. I get the feeling they must've offered him a very good deal. You win some, you lose some though I suppose, with us seemingly benefitting from these new dates, by signing Vaughan and possibly Sambou from Saints.

Hill is still a developing player, why invest the rest of the season into him if we are not going to see the benefit, offload and bring another experienced prop in
Byrne is a well established player who will do his job then leave, he has paid back what was invested in him

I’d agree on freezing him out. It’s hardly cutting off our nose etc. when he can barely get a minute and is relying on 2 or 3 front row injuries/being unavailable before he can be trusted. Want to leave us? Fine. Enjoy Robin Park 6 times for the rest of the year with some academy and reserve only players.

I don’t. If he is selected on merit then fine.

No, but the way Hull FC behave they may want him straight away!
