Re: New cricket ground
latics are averaging 17185 this year bet were not far off at the end of the season.....(fingers crossed)!
Re: New cricket ground
It's Latics figures next year that you need to look at. This was a fairytale year for them. There is a long way to go.

Latics' league average is over 21,000.
We've had 17,000 on once so far, for one of our bigger matches of the season.
Our average will - like last year - be around the 13,800 mark. That's why I said that a smaller stadium would suit us fine.

Cuckoo have you taken into account cup games as well as some did not get 5,000 i seem to recall.im_a_cuckoo posted:Pedro. it does no one any favours for you to stick your head in the sand over this one.pedro posted:

im_a_cuckoo posted:Averages don't work like that. If we can fill the jjb, even if it's only for 1 or 2 games per season, then we need that capacity. Cutting down our maximum crowd would lower our average, which is already up on last year.pedro posted:

You're talking about Bournemouth and Watford on a Tuesday night and not even in the most important cup competition.
Our average would have been lower than 13,800 if you included the Powergen Cup games against Whitehaven and Union Tezistes. It's only a couple of season since the 3,700 against Halton Simms Cross.
And if there were in a second, less important cup, played in mideweek, I think it would be fair to say those gates/averages would be even less.
Why are you being so one-eyed about this?
Re: New cricket ground
I think average crowds are pretty irrelevant. In 1999 when the stadium opened, the rugby team's average crowd was about 11000 (we'd had some relatively low crowds at CP that year), and the Latics were still well-down the league.im_a_cuckoo posted:

Despite this, Whelan went for a 25000 capacity stadium knowing neither team would fill it regularly, but there would be occasions when it was full.
He has now realised his dream of the Latics getting into the Premiership and I think it's fair to say the ground is the right size for them - they're hardly turning people away from the turnstiles most games.
Both team's attendances have been growing ever since we moved in, WRLFC have managed capacity crowds and there are certain fixtures you can guarantee will get more fans than people are speculating about with this silly cricket ground. Therefore it's not wrong to say the size of the JJB is pretty appropriate for us as well.
I still say, why move? Unless we get another 25000 stadium for us as well, which will take years whilst planning permission is sought, the nimbys pacified, road layouts changed... Just ask Salford and Saints how easy it is to get a new ground.
