Surely, you mean the FA stopped any move, not because of his ownership of Warriors, but that he also owns (or part-owns) Oxford City FC, which could compromise that sport if any conflicts arose, especially if those two teams played against each other. Owning a RL Club doesn't affect the football competition in any similar way.

I think the chairman of Huddersfield also owns the football club, and if not mistaken, the same thing happens at Hull FC/Hull City.

That'd be funny considering he owns Oxford. I imagine you're not allowed to own more than one footabll club in the English competition at a time. No rule about owning teams in other sports.

They didn't stop Whelan owning both! I don't think IL has the money to buy latics. Not onlythat,where is the business sense. Most clubs in the football league are losing money. My worry is that because latics have been relegated, their attendances will decrease, Sky money will stop therefore gate prices at Warriors games will have to increase. IL indicated this at the last (last but one?) fans forum when latics were facing relegation previously.

Its a 50 year lease Dave but it will be subject to regular rent reviews. The next one should be interesting!

We use it far fewer times than Latics, don't make any money out of the concessions and as it is a modern stadium I would imagine the fixed running costs are not that great anyway.

Game day expenses such as stewarding and policing won't be part of any rent either.

I suppose Latics could try it on and suggest we pay 50% of the fixed costs even though we use it far less but given there is no one else going to take our place Wigan RL are in a strong bargaining position.

At least we will not be subject to the Premier League rule about not playing a certain time before the Latic's or will we still be, seeing that Whelan regrettably owns the Stadium ?
