Re: HAS MADGE BN SACKED????
If Madge did a press conference and there was a statement of denial it would prove absolutely nothing. How many times have we heard 'we are not signing...' Or 'we have not been approached by...' From various coaches at Wigan and other clubs over the years? Speculation will happen regardless as it always has done and always will do. I'm a little surprised at the naivety of anyone suggesting otherwise to be perfectly honest.
Regarding a 3 year plan as far as I'm aware, if there was one it would have gone something like this.
Year 1 sort the club out, get the right people in and the right mentality.
Year 2 Win a trophy.
Year 3 win more trophies.
Now I think its fair to say that the boxes for Years 1 and 2 were ticked in year 1 so I don't see any reason why a 3 year plan couldn't conceivably be a 2 year plan in which case Madge would be leaving the club in a strong position at the end of this season. If we keep Madge for a 3rd year we could end up treading water which would serve no purpose whatsoever, things could go stale and slip backwards, meaning Wane would be associated with the old regime should there be any problems which occur as a result. I'm sure Waney has had adequate time to learn some tricks of the trade and, let's be fair, he was working from a pretty strong base by all accounts.
Regarding what Madge told the players, whilst I have no doubt this conversation took place, we don't know how much info IL is privy to and we don't know if he has told Madge to remain tight lipped or deny any knowledge to players to prevent rocking the boat. Its a possibility that if Madge has signed for Souths he could quite easily have said he didn't want anything confirming until the end of the season, in which case speculation will continue.
Another possibility of course is that Madge hasn't signed for anyone and will stay for the full 3 yrs of his contract. We don't know, and knowing the record of RL clubs on reliable factual info it could be a while before we find out.

Re: HAS MADGE BN SACKED????
Either way im not too bothered now, I think Madge is a fantastic coach however if he wishes to leave to go home thats fine after all he brought wigan success in 2010.
DaveO I find your views interesting, Ill ask you 2 questions not for an argument but only for your perspective.
Why do players leave the NRL for SuperLeague?
Whay do coaches leave the NRL for SuperLeague?
Cheers.

If Madge does go I wish him Good Luck & would like to thank him for last season
What a ride it was

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

It would if he said "I am not going to be coach of Souths or any other NRL side in 2012 and I will see my contract at Wigan out".gpartin wrote:If Madge did a press conference and there was a statement of denial it would prove absolutely nothing.
Re: HAS MADGE BN SACKED????
I don't think you can generalise. For many different reasons I would think. Take Richards for example. He has said he came here because his job of being an RL player allowed him to travel and that is what he wanted to do while young enough to enjoy it. A brave thing to do to leave an NRL career having just won a GF.29wes28 wrote:

Hoffman may not have come were it not for the Storm thing but he also seems here to sample the overseas life.
Other player come for the more mundane reason if they can't get a gig in the NRL as they are toward the end of their careers and clubs are daft enough to employ them.
I am sure there are many other reasons.
The same with coaches. Mo persuaded John Monie to come to Wigan as he convinced him there was no experience like it but with coaches there aren't that many coaching jobs around in both leagues and so I think we will always see Aussie coaches here as its just another job and we will see them return to jobs back home in some cases as some have done.
Re: HAS MADGE BN SACKED????
he'd never say that because he's living halfway round the world and doesn't know what's round the corner if we end up where we're in a position that its best all round if he moves on, why wouldn't he? Plus he said something quite similar a few months ago and yet there is still speculation.DaveO wrote:It would if he said "I am not going to be coach of Souths or any other NRL side in 2012 and I will see my contract at Wigan out".gpartin wrote:If Madge did a press conference and there was a statement of denial it would prove absolutely nothing.
