More than sponsors, as they put in a lot of money into the building of the Stadium in conjunction with the Council and that is why it is called the KC Stadium. Kingston Communications is now the name of a private company which took over the running of the telephone system in the Hull area when the Council decided too sell off what was the only telephone system in the country owned by a council.
A similar arrangement applies to the Reebok Stadium in Bolton where the Reebok company also financially helped the Club and the Council to build the Stadium because their business was founded in the town.

You are right, it is indeed owned by Hull City Council, but some of the funding came from sale of the Council's share of the telephone system to Kingston Communications who also agreed to be the sponsors of the Stadium.
