Bradford's Magnificent 8!!!!

Post by ian.birchall »

So the Bulls have now signed Kohe-Love. That makes 8 overseas players for next year, when do the restrictions come into place about 'anglicised' players come into effect or has Brussels managed to kick that into touch also? It should be a simple rule, you can play for GB if you were born in the UK, (or if you are Brian Carney), otherwise you are a foreign player for overseas registration counting purposes.

I'll try and get this correct.
Kohe-love isn't on the overseas list because of the 5 year rule along with Robbie Paul also Vaikona. Also Vainikolo & Vagana are from tonga and somoa and are not on the oversea's list because of this new European law that's recently been introduced.

Sooo on the over seas list is Withers, Swann & Hape

It's not really an overseas rule is it, just seems to be a rule made up from random ideas thrown into a pot.

The rules are, as I understand it:

The off-quota rule has been abolished. So any Aussies or Kiwis signed now will never come off quota.

However, if a player was already off-quota such as Robbie Paul then he can remain off-quota.

The original idea was to have all overseas players off quota, including the likes of Robbie Paul but guess who threatened legal action?

None other than Chris Caisley the Bradford Chairman. So, as I said, no off-quota rule for new signings but those already off-quota stay off-quota.

Players such as Withers I am pretty certain qualify as off-quots not because they have been here long enough but because of parentage. If you remember there was talk of him playing for GB because he is elligable. When not picked he spat the dummy and said he would never consider it anyway as he was an Aussie.

So an Aussie in spirit but a Brit to get a job. Nice.

Other players who don't count on quota are those with an EC passport.

Kohe-Love may be off-quota due to time here or also because of parentage as there was once talk of him playing for GB as well. He also declined IIRC.

As to the South Sea Island contingent, I had heard of this idea they were excempt from needing a work permit and so were equal to EC citizens, but was not sure it was in force.

I don't think Bradford need it because, Withers, Paul and Kohe-Love are already off quota and I am fairly sure a couple of the others must be as well due to the old off-quota rule.

Whatever, 8 is too many and does the game here no good.

Dave

No! The whole point of my original question was to empasise how there did not seem to be any rules. Your various answers just go to show how the Bulls get around the rules, yes the future is cherry and white, look at the number of players Wigan have in the 'A' team, but who has Luke Robinson upset, Gaza wanted him in the GB squad and he is nowhere near either squad.

you can hide behind rules and smallprint but as someone said there are too many overseas players in bradfords squad if you not from our shores then your foreign and stuff the E.U now doesnt that make the game fairer theres only one team moaning therefore the minority rule!

I thought you asked about when the rule about anglisised players came in and had Brussells kicked it into touch. I thought by explaining the rules you could read what they were, namely there are no longer any off-quota get outs for new signings but those who are already off quota remain so.

I know Bradford are using the various rules to employ more foreign players then the four they are allowed next season. So are Hull and it is not right.

As to Luke I thought he was in the under 21 squad. Although what thathas to do with the overseas quota I am note sure!

. brian carney can play for gb because it's great britain and ireland! bradford can have as many overseas players as they like next year as far as i'm concerned, coz you still won't win anything.
