In many ways it is good for the RFL as a whole that the Wigan lawyer exposed the illegality of the salary cap procedures. Had it been deiscovered down the line, a few years after, the legal ramifications could have been immense.

If the media should be 'having a go', it should be at the RFl Not Wigan RLFC.

Trust me, the number of club chairmen who quietly support Wigan makes for a much longer list. But wisely, they're keeping quiet for the moment.

With idiots like those above, who just can't keep their stupid fat mouths shut, we're not going to need to go to trial at this rate - the judge might well decide that as we've clearly been tried out of court, it would now be impossible to try us in it.

It is not inconcievable that the meeting of the 25th does not take place. I would speculate that Wigan will have to put their facts together and submit for scutiny prior to the meeting. If the facts are deemed to be correct then charges coukld be dropped. This would mean that the appeal remained sealed. As put previously if say Bradford paid their fine for last year only to find it was because of misinterpretation would they not want their money back. Maybe the RL will back down rather than lose. Where does that quote come from? It is an amazingly damning view of the RFL.

Where he says the RFL therefore lack authority to make the decisions that sounds very much like he is saying the RFL make it up as they go along! That is the rules are drafted so ambiguously the RFL could almost say what they liked BUT you can't run things like that.

It has always been my concern that the RFL would attempt to use some catch-all clause to strike out Wigan's objections but the above gives me some hope that this sort of tactic won't be allowed and for the club to lose the case has to be clear cut.

They make themselves look foolish. The Cas chairman has already done so numerous times already as he bleats about being relegated, wanting the league enlarged so they were not relegate and so on.

No doubt he is making himself popular with his own fans but then that is because most of them won't bother to delve any deeper into it as they are happy to play the role of the injured party.

They should be embarrassed of their chairman IMO whether Wigan are guilty or not.

The quote comes from the Rugby Leaguer & League Express, page 3 Dave. That paper takes a calm rational view. The anti Wigan stuff comes from League Weekley whereby the Editor, Danny Lockwood is really 'on one'

The opening page carries a heading "were Wigan driven by principle or plain greed for points?" "The circumventing of the spirit of the salary cap punishments, led by two of the biggest names in the game, does not reflect well on us" WE (WIGAN HAVE NOT BEEN FOUND GUILTY OF ANYTHING, ALAS Lockwood and co seem to have decided our fate beforehand. There is then a shabby piece of journalism by Rebecca Smith who says that Wigan's success in having any overspend dealt with under the more lenient scale of penalties has been met with widespread anger and disbelief (YET She only quotes 3 people, 2 with a very vested interest in seeing Wigan punished) Lockwood then has an editorial piece carrying the title "a breach of trust that's totally unforgivable" with a picture of ML smiling

Wigan are RL sorry to other clubs but in the eyes of the media we are, look at last year, saints cheat their way to evrything people say well done, media not over excited, wigan avoid relegation and have generaly crap year whilst allegedley ignoring salary cap major news

were all these clubs moaning in the early 80's when we were relagated to the old 2nd division,and on the verge of going bust NO.they should thank there lucky stars we pulled ourselves up by the boot straps and remodeled ourselves.had we not done so and not had our glory years in my opinion there wouldn't be any sl or grandfinal or tri-nations or full time professinals.these rules were brought in to stop us getting any bigger and dominating for another ten years,the only thing we are guilty of is wanting success just like any club in any sport.these rules are stupid everyone knows if you want the best players you have to pay for them,the only winners if the rl carry on with the salary cap in this form is rugby union by taking away the sports greatest talents,if they don't act quickly it will be to late.and as for the bleating chairman from other clubs and other fans with there heads stuck in sand get your own houses in order before you start on us,the rest of rl hasn't moaned when they have been getting our players we have had to let go becuase of the salary cap have they.
