Garath Hock

Post by Gandalf »

Hock was absloutly awful tonight, he is a liability, if he's not taking someones head off, he's knocking on or throwing the ball to no-one. tonights team performance was an improvment but, they are lacking punch going forward. with some of them it was a case of there being more work in a scouse dole queue.

to be honest the way nobby is going with his selection I think it is time hocky is given a week off. He seems to be trying too hard at the minute and needs to get his head straight.

i agree with you completely he played so well in the tri-nations and his season so far he has done nothing but give the ball away.

However i do rate him as a player he just needs to think.

Hock was trying to make opportunities for other people but they just didn't come off tonight. When it goes well it looks great when it doesn't it looks awful.

Fielden was far worse, didn't make a meter all night. He is meant to be an international prop and one of the best forwards in the world and he gets pushed back in every tackle :conf:

Actually he is the one forward we have who knows how to run a line through a defence and yes he offloads. Guess what, offloading leads to occasional mistakes. It can also lead to tries, particularly if other players support him. Wigan players do not support each close enough.

Hock has become a bit of a whipping boy for supporters IMO. People need to look elsewhere. In a team relatively devoid of good attacking play he is vitally important.

I like Hock (preds MoM this week) and cpwigan is right, i like it when he runs and tries the offloads, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, at least he tries things from the obvious.

I have been critical of Hock lately but I think tonight what cpw says is correct. He was one of the few players who you felt might break through and indeed he did have several half breaks.

However the offloads aren't working so despite the fact in a better team someone would be in support more often he needs to play to the team which means most of the time sticking hold of the bsll. if he did then we would be better off.

It is difficult Dave. Firstly as everybody know Hock is no brain surgeon and he does the odd crazy thing. The pass off the floor v Cats was farcical. As far as offloads go, you almost reach a scenario where if you say stop offloading then it almost become zero attempts because you are asking him to take so much care.
