The Leeds player was struggling to keep hold of the ball, he was juggling with it and at best when he lost the ball he was holding the bottom 1/3rd. Now in the field of play if you run with the ball away from your body or try to pass out of the tackle, it is deemed a loose carry. So in this example it was no different. The ball carrier has a respnsibility to hold the ball securely according to Cummings.
When the ball steal rule was first introduced, players started to release the ball deliberately whemn they knew an opponent had their hand on the ball. This resulted in penalties. The ruling was changed to reflect this gamesmanship.

Bad result for us. A Bulls win would have probably led to Saints winning the minor prem before they play Wigan and fielding a weak team.
Funny you should look at it like that. I was thinking that if Leeds won, there would be a possibility that we could deny stains the league leaders shield on the last day of the season. Whilst we won't win anything this season - it would be nice to deny them! It could have been ML's leaving present!

Interviewer: So that obviously means that you're not going to St Helens and you're not going to Leeds?
Frano: I don't know why I would ever want to go to St Helens or Leeds

i thought it was a bad decision.
it can be argued that platt (legend for punching fa'asavalu) was trying to collect the loose ball. i looked and thoguht, he hasn't gone to steal it, he's trying to stop diskin from grounding the ball by holding his arms up, then the ball came free because diskin didn't have full control. i don't think it warranted a PT.
