James leuluai / Trent Barrett

Post by bertina »

Trent Barrett had a quiet game tonight, but God only knows how we would go on if he got injured. As far as creating anything he is on his own.
If Lulu kicks the ball on the last tackle expect it to be straight down the full backs throat.
If we are on the attack and Trent doesn't come up with the goods, it's over.
This man would have been nailed on for man of steel weeks ago if he had a half decent scrum half to give him some support from time to time. In my opinion Lulu has had enough time to settle in at Wigan and show what he can do, and he has come up short. Just imagine how bad he would look if he only had a mediocre stand off outside him.
People are expecting Trent to work wonders every week. It's just not possible! The attention he got tonight was unbelievable and yet no one else looked like creating anything. There is an old saying that one man doesn't make a team, but I'm beginning to wonder.
How would we we go on if Trent was injured ?
God forbid.!!!!

Thought he had a good game to be honest one bad mistake with not making the ball dead but his short ball put Hock over and he made some good yards going forward his hits were good as well . Any team would miss Trent if injured .

TL has improved toward the end of the season I think.

I think he also needed to improve!

He spent the first 3/4 of the season extremely shy of actually running at the defence and taking some responsibility for the attack.

He would either pass it along the line or put in a (pretty poor) grubber kick 99 times out of 100.

I was not convinced.

However I have seen an improvement in his attacking play in recent weeks. So if we strengthen the pack for next season I am a bit more optimistic about him than I was a few weeks back.

Tommy is top on and everyone is forgetting hes still only young thus still learning.

Who out there is better than Tommy that Wigan could get potential wise? i bet i could shoot you down in flames.

Lulu was brilliant tonight, totally unfair thread. Made a blinding error but hard to remember he's just 22
Gareth Thomas before his first game: "You wanna spend 10 mins getting smashed up by these guys..Big dudes here.."

lulu had a good game for me. His one mistake was appalling, but he did a fair amount in attack and put in some good grubbers to keep the pressure on in the second half. His one relieving run in the second half where he beat about 3 men in making 40 metres upfield away from our line was evidence of his obvious potential (that he is now fulfilling).

IMO bertina has already made their mind up about Tommy and evidence on the pitch won't change it. :conf:

He made a bad blunder BUT he does not normally play WINGER. I think you can see his potential and I thought he played well last night and for a young scrum half he seems to be improving. I really like him running at the opposition forwards and I see him as more of a close in leader of the forward pack who then gets the ball out quick/when Trent calls for it.
